Linebacker Kyle Van Noy has signed a four-year, $51 million contract with the Miami Dolphins, according to numerous reports. His new contract carries with it $30 million in guarantees and keeps him with the team through 2024. Van Noy spent last three and a half seasons with the New England Patriots.

Kyle Van Noy, Miami Dolphins, Agree to Deal
After an impressive showing in the 2014 Senior Bowl, Van Noy shot up draft boards as a linebacker. The Detroit Lions selected Van Noy in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. During camp, Van Noy began competing for starting strong-side linebacker for the Lions. However, a core muscle injury sidelined him prior to the start of the season, delaying his debut until mid-November.
During the 2015 season, Van Noy continued to struggle to find time on the field as a reserve role. He did, however, record his first career sack. Van Noy showed flashes of his play-making ability. As the season concluded, he was poised for a breakout year in 2016.
However, 2016 did not goes as anticipated for Van Noy and the Lions traded him to the New England Patriots on October 25, 2016. He joined the Patriots in a back-up role but he had an immediate impact. His play on defense the remainder of the season attributed to the Patriots winning Super Bowl LI.
Van Noy excelled with the Patriots the following three years. Head coach Bill Belichick was able to jumpstart Van Noy’s career significantly. Belichick was able to showcase Van Noy’s talents in a predominately 3-4 defensive scheme. During this time, Van Noy tallied over 200 total tackles, 15.5 sacks, four recovered fumbles, and scored twice. Van Noy and the Patriots found themselves in the post-season each of the last three years. Including two Super Bowl appearances and another Lombardi Trophy.
Van Noy brings with him experience and flexibility at the linebacker position, either inside or outside. Additionally, he has tremendous durability as in 2019, he participated in 814 defensive snaps or 81%.
While at BYU in college, Van Noy was a defensive leader and collected numerous accolades, including the 2012 College Football Performance Award as the best defensive player of the year. He finished his college career with 226 total tackles, 26 sacks, and 17 forced fumbles.
