The 2019 NFL season has been nothing short of interesting. We are in the middle of the season with two undefeated teams. Number one in its division, the New Orleans Saints went into its bye week with a 7-1 record. It is only fair that the Saints look ahead of what’s to come.
New Orleans Saints Look Ahead to Remaining Games of 2019
Drew Brees
Remember last year against the Washington Redskins, Drew Brees made history becoming the all-time leader in passing yards. The stadium ignited and fans were in tears having experienced such a heightened moment in his career and momentous time for New Orleans. Sean Payton and Brees have become one of the most well-respected duos in Louisiana. As a Saints quarterback, Brees has only had one missed injury-related game until his thumb injury. Fast forward to this year, one can expect there was a round of tears shed as Brees walked on the field for the first time in five weeks.
Whatever you do, don’t call it a comeback. Brees has been absent since his injury in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams. He made a remarkable debut against the Arizona Cardinals. Social media was in a frenzy as word got out Brees would be active. Everyone had opinions on whether he should play or wait until after the bye week. He showed he was not only healed but he is still the league’s passing yards leader.
A Team in Motion
There is a lot to be said about this Saints team. One thing for sure, they are on the move and don’t show signs of holding back. Expect the return of Brees to ignite a fire in the offense. On his return game alone, offense easily scored 31 points. Brees connected with Michael Thomas at least 11 times, and Thomas caught each one. One interesting return is Alvin Kamara who was inactive with a knee/ankle injury and missed two games. With Latavius Murray finally finding his place, the pressure is now off Kamara to perform. The duo can work to have that unstoppable energy and maybe balance each other out.
There isn’t much to be said about the defense that hasn’t been said before already. The defense has been solid all season. They have been a big adjustment when the offense couldn’t get moving. In the game against the Cardinals, the defense did not allow a touchdown. The unit has a task ahead of them with two games each against NFC South opponents and against the undefeated San Francisco 49ers. The Saints defense has allowed an average of 20 points so far this season. Either way, the team will continue to march to its own drum for the rest of the season.
