Houston Texans to Sign Cornerback Bradley Roby to One-Year Deal
Roby played his first season as a starter in 2018. He managed to tally 50 tackles, 12 passes defended, and one interception in 15 games. Roby also had two forced fumbles for the Broncos defense as well. Despite those contributions, Denver had the 20th ranked defense in the NFL. Roby’s inconsistent play led to a grade of 59.8 by Pro Football Focus. That was a sharp decline from his career-best rating of 78.3 a season ago playing behind Aqib Talib and Chris Harris Jr.
Durability is not a concern for the 26-year-old. Roby has played in all but one game since entering the league in 2014. In his five-year career, Roby has 238 tackles, eight for a loss, and two hits on the quarterback. He also has three sacks, seven forced fumbles, and four recoveries. One of those resulted in a touchdown. Roby has 60 passes defended and seven interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns. Most of Roby’s career and success has come as the third or nickel cornerback. As a rookie, Roby was a member of the Broncos Super Bowl 50 championship team.
Roby was a three-star athlete recruit out of Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, GA. Initially planning on attending Vanderbilt as a wide receiver, Roby changed his commitment to Ohio State to play defensive back. During his time at Ohio State, Roby was named a second-team All-American in 2012 and first-team All-Big Ten in 2012 and 2013. The Broncos made him their first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft with him going 31st overall.
