Any Pittsburgh Steelers fans who have listened to Ike Taylor in the media during his playing days and outside of them should know that he was destined for a life in the NFL. Taylor is a sponge for NFL knowledge and is never afraid to show off his tape evaluation and opinions of others in the NFL and prospects coming up.
Ike Taylor to Join Pittsburgh Steelers as Scouting Intern
Every once in a while he has a take that has some scratching their heads. However, he is never afraid to break down his reasoning and thought process as to how he got to his conclusion. Taylor is a character, so he fits in well on television, but he seemed destined to end up back in the building of an NFL team.
The easy comparison would be to Joey Porter, who played for the Steelers, had a similar mentality for his position, but was not the same lovable character as Taylor. He immediately got into coaching and is now the outside linebackers coach for the Steelers. It would be easy to see the Steelers ease Taylor into a role in the same way the Steelers did with Porter for a bit behind Keith Butler.
However, while Taylor will be doing his internship with the Steelers, like Porter, he has announced it will be in the scouting department, and not interacting with the players. He tweeted the announcement recently.
I will be working under GM Kevin Colbert and the scouting department not coaching… https://t.co/Mw9PS0AEBW

A role in the scouting department is exactly the fit that Taylor needs to stick around the organization for years to come. He has shown his knowledge and dedication, and he spent so much time in the building, he knows exactly what the Steelers do and do not look for in their defensive backfield.
Who knows? Maybe Ike Taylor can be the scout to find the next Ike Taylor.
Of course, it is still at an internship level and will be based on a preliminary time period. However, would it really be a surprise to hear that the Steelers are bringing him on for the season, if not the next few years?
