The Minnesota Vikings new acquisition at receiver this offseason, Michael Floyd, will be serving a four-game suspension to start the season. This suspension is stemming from a failed alcohol test during Floyd’s probation period after the DUI he received earlier in the year.

Michael Floyd Suspended First Four Games of 2017
Michael Floyd came to his home state of Minnesota a troubled player. He had been released by the Arizona Cardinals back in December after an incident where he picked up six different charges after being caught asleep behind the wheel. He was then picked up by the New England Patriots, and this offseason came back to his home state of Minnesota to play for the Vikings.
Floyd is to be suspended for the first four games of the 2017 regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. This is a result of him violating his strict house confinement terms, which included 90 days alcohol free and several tests a day. Floyd tested positive for alcohol with a .04 B.A.C., which is half the legal limit. The receiver said the positive alcohol test was due to drinking large amounts of Kombucha tea, a strong fermented drink containing natural alcohol. Floyd was allegedly unaware the drink contained alcohol.
The Vikings coaching staff is aware of the situation and continues to stand behind Floyd. Coach Mike Zimmer has given Michael Floyd the benefit of the doubt, but also said to him “If I find out you’re lying to me, I’m going to cut you.” This means Floyd is essentially walking on eggshells with the Vikings.
Should evidence arise of Floyd knowingly consuming alcohol, he will more than likely immediately become a free agent. Should the Vikings cut Floyd, he would be hard-pressed for another opportunity due to his circumstances. Teams would not take violating house confinement terms lightly.
