The Philadelphia Eagles waived third-year wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham today to make room for quarterback Dane Evans. Evans, a relative unknown at the position, joins a solid quarterback group consisting of Carson Wentz, Nick Foles, and Matt McGloin.

Dorial Green-Beckham Project Ends in Philly
That Green-Beckham was cut for a player who’s unlikely to make the final roster suggests how far he had fallen in the eyes of the coaches. After a rollercoaster rookie season in Tennessee, the Titans traded Green-Beckham to the Eagles for tackle Dennis Kelly. Initially, many suspected the ultra-athletic receiver would fill a void left by Jeremy Maclin. Instead, Green-Beckham was plagued by drops and an inability to learn Doug Pederson‘s offense. That trait followed him into this year’s off-season training program.
With the free agency additions of Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith back in March, Green-Beckham’s time in Philly seemed to be limited. That was further compounded by 2017 draft picks Mack Hollins and Shelton Gibson. Finally, the surprising rise of Nelson Agholor shut down any possibility of Green-Beckham earning a roster spot. Green-Beckham at least played through OTAs and minicamp but clearly didn’t leave an impression on the Eagles coaching staff.
The Titans originally drafted Green-Beckham in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, taking him with the 40th overall pick. His talent and overall potential outweighed the significant off-field baggage Tennessee inherited by picking him. Green-Beckham dealt with numerous legal issues while playing collegiately at Missouri, with the team dismissing him in April of 2014.
Green-Beckham committed to Mizzou as one of the nation’s most highly touted high school prospects. Recruiting website Rivals.com rated him as the number one prospect of the 2012 class.
Considering Green-Beckham’s size, athleticism, and youth, it wouldn’t be a shocker to see him sign with another team this off-season. Teams with a need at the position could bring in Green-Beckham for some roster competition.
