Isaiah Crowell Signs
Isaiah Crowell was a restricted free agent, meaning the Browns had the option to tender him and then would have the chance to match any offer. Due to the second-round tender offered to Crowell, the Browns would receive a second-round pick from the new team if Cleveland fails to match the offer.
Crowell, 24, was signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama State in 2014. If it wasn’t for a solid game in the last preseason game, Crowell might not have made the 53-man roster heading into the 2014 season.
Crowell would play in all sixteen games while starting four in his rookie year. He would share carries with fellow rookie running back, Terrance West and veteran Ben Tate. Crowell and West were so effective that the Browns parted ways with Tate halfway through the season. Crowell finished 2014 with 607 yards rushing on 148 carries (4.1 yards per carry) and eight touchdowns, while catching nine passes for 87 yards. Only Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back, Jeremy Hill, had more rushing touchdowns than Crowell.
During the 2015 season, Crowell would start nine games, while playing in all 16. The former Alabama State standout found himself sharing carries with rookie Duke Johnson, who was the Browns primary back on third downs. Crowell would finish his sophomore season in the NFL with 706 yards rushing on 185 carries (3.8 yards per carry) and four touchdowns.
Crowell started all 16 games for the Browns in 2016, and carried the ball 198 times for 952 yards (4.8 YPC) and seven touchdowns in what was an up and down season for both him and the team. He also vastly improved throughout the season as a receiver, catching 40 passes for 319 yards. Crowell also had the longest run in the NFL in 2016, an 85-yard touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens.
In three seasons, Crowell has 2,265 yards rushing on 531 carries (4.3 yards per carry) to go along with 68 catches for 588 yards and 20 total touchdowns (19 rushing).
