Report: Jamaal Charles to Sign With Denver Broncos, Pending Physical

Charles was waived by the Kansas City Chiefs back on February 28th. He played nine years in Kansas City after being drafted in the third round in 2008.

During his time in Kansas City, he accumulated 7,260 rushing yards for 43 touchdowns. He was a dynamic pass catcher out of the backfield, grabbing 285 passes for over 2,400 yards and 20 scores.

The two-time first-team All-Pro was known for explosive abilities as he averaged 5.5 yards-per-carry, an NFL all-time record.

However, the emergence of young talented backs in Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West, along with Charles’ recent injury history, prompted the move by the Chiefs.

The 2013 NFL rushing leader has been hampered with multiple knee and ankle ailments throughout his career. In the past two seasons, he was only able to play in eight games due to these injuries.

He has had three ACL related surgeries in his left knee, including a reconstruction operation in 2016 to trim his meniscus.

Charles hasn’t played a full season since 2012, where he rushed for over 1,500 yards. If Charles can remain healthy he still offers good hands and shiftiness coming out of the backfield.

Charles played three seasons of college football at the University of Texas before being selected in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft. In 38 games, Charles rushed for 3,328 yards and 36 touchdowns. He also recorded 539 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns. In his final collegiate season, he led the Big 12 in rushing touchdowns with a whopping total of 18.
