The Seattle Seahawks Should Sign Colin Kaepernick

In a bizarre twist, former rival Colin Kaepernick is actually a perfect fit for the Seattle Seahawks. Should they give him a shot?

Early Monday morning, Seattle Seahawks back-up quarterback, Trevone Boykin was arrested when he was in a car that crashed into a bar. When the police investigated, they found over two ounces of marijuana. This is hardly the first time that Boykin has had trouble with the law. Maybe it’s time the Seahawks looked into signing a new back-up quarterback. Why not Colin Kaepernick?

The Seattle Seahawks Should Sign Colin Kaepernick

As previously discussed, Colin Kaepernick’s free agency is a bit of a mystery. He’s in a tough spot, because while he’s shown flashes of greatness, his on the field play has been mostly mediocre. Unfortunately for the 29 year old, his on the field activity isn’t what people are talkign about. Last year, Kaepernick made headlines by refusing to stand for the national anthem at the beginning of games, in protest of police brutality.

Why is Kaepernick a free agent? Probably a healthy mix of both. Teams view him as a potential distraction, and they think he’s maxed out his potential as a quarterback. A troubled player like Johnny Manziel might get more looks than Kaepernick because coaches just don’t know what they have with him yet. But for Kaepernick, it seems like the call will never come.

Enter Seattle

Not that long ago, the concept of Colin Kaepernick playing for the Seattle Seahawks would’ve been laughable. He was the starting quarterback of their hated rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. On their way to the only Super Bowl championship in franchise history, the Seattle Seahawks beat Kaepernick and the Niners.

So why Seattle? When you look a little deeper, he’s actually a perfect fit. Boykin and Russell Wilson are the only quarterbacks on the roster, and Boykin is causing more trouble than he’s worth. Kaepernick would give the Seahawks a back-up with veteran experience that would come at a good price. And all the off the field stuff? There’s no place better.

Colin Kaepernick is outspoken about his beliefs, but he’s hardly the most outspoken player in football. That honor belongs to Seahawks corner, Richard Sherman. Sherman has fired off about everything from Tom Brady to Black Lives Matter to the NFL commissioner himself. Sherman is a passionate, brave man that says whatever he wants. Pete Carroll and the Seahawks don’t seem to mind, so they probably wouldn’t hate having a reliable back-up.

Oh, another issue that Sherman is outspoken about? Colin Kaepernick himself. Last Friday, Sherman was on First Take, and he went on a rant about his former rival. He said that he was better than a third of the starting quarterbacks in the NFL, and that the league was blackballing him. Rivals turned teammates? We’ll see.
