Report: Kenny Stills To Re-Sign With Miami Dolphins
The former Oklahoma standout finally had a breakthrough year after three lackluster seasons with the New Orleans Saints. Stills finished the 2016 season averaging a ridiculous 17.3 yards per catch, but only reeling in 42 catches. There is no denying his talent as a deep threat, but Stills has a long way to go to become a possession receiver to deserve the amounts of money he is demanding.
Each year the wide out free agency class increasingly grows more expensive, whether or not the talent merits it. Tavon Austin‘s contract is to blame for this. Stills developed a great rapport with quarterback Ryan Tannehill in 2016, but drops hindered his season, most notably a surefire touchdown pass in Week One against the Seattle Seahawks that would have surely given Miami the win.
Stills’ statistics may be slightly misleading, which has driven his price significantly. With so few catches to his name, his aforementioned yards per catch stat is extremely inflated. This has had no effect in teams interest over him over the past few months, leading to this current deal.
Stills is a slightly above average wide receiver who demanded a great deal of money. Hopefully for the Dolphins, he can live up to his price tag. At the tender age of 24, Stills surely has a long way to go in his NFL career. If he loses that speed factor, his hands are not nearly good enough to get by. A nine touchdown season will be hard to follow up, but if Stills continues to develop, the Dolphins will have a dangerous receiving corps for the future.
