After plenty of rumors circulated around Sunday night, the Miami Dolphins have sent a late round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for tight end Julius Thomas. Thomas only caught 30 passes for 281 songs and four touchdowns last season, and never became the superstar the Jaguars thought he would be when they signed him.
Julius Thomas Traded to Miami Dolphins
Julius Thomas was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars after a breakout season with the Denver Broncos that saw him catch 24 touchdowns over the course of two seasons. Thomas was brought in to be a big receiver for young quarterback, Blake Bortles, but he never really panned out. He only caught 76 passes for 736 yards and nine touchdowns over his two seasons with the team.
Late Sunday evening, it was reported that the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars were discussing a trade that would send Branden Albert from Miami to Jacksonville for the services of Julius Thomas. There was some confusion, with some websites reporting that the Dolphins had sent a first round pick for the tight end before taking their article down. The exact pick hasn’t been leaked yet, but the trade itself has been confirmed by Ian Rapoport.

Julius Thomas had his best season under current Dolphins head coach, Adam Gase, when he was coaching for the Denver Broncos. If Thomas can return to his 2013 or even 2014 form, he’ll give quarterback Ryan Tannehill a nice big weapon. This could really help Miami as they attempt to get over the hump and challenge the New England Patriots in 2017.
As for Jacksonville, this is a good move as well. He wasn’t really helping the Jaguars, and not only are they free of his contract, but now they have another pick to work with. The Jaguars are on the way up, and who knows, this late round pick might just change their fortunes. It worked for the Patriots back in 2000.
