Technically, yes the Green Bay Packers beat the Dallas Cowboys in one of the most exciting playoff games ever. The Cowboys’ defense killed them along with poor offense to start the game. However, the Cowboys overcame a 21-3 deficit to tie things up and make it very interesting. This season was not a loss for the Cowboys. This young team has a lot to be proud of and even more to look forward to.
Why the Divisional Round Loss Did Not Defeat the Dallas Cowboys
If anyone says the Cowboys did not leave it all on the line, they are wrong. Dak Prescott and Dez Bryant both had excellent games. The defense did heat up towards the second half and even stopped Aaron Rodgers a few times. The game was well-played by both teams, it just came down to a miraculous pass and even more incredible catch from Rodgers to Jared Cook. This set up a 51-yard field goal for Mason Crosby to end the game. All Cowboys fans’ hearts sunk when this kick flew through the uprights. What should pick them up is the idea the Dallas Cowboys are going to be even better next year.
Wait Until Next Year
The first year for rookies Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott went swimmingly. Not only did they have the second best record in the NFL this year, they also broke the franchise record. It is obvious to say that the team could not have done it without them. Both of them now have a season under their belt along with playoff experience. Speaking of which, one of the highlights of the divisional round was watching Elliott make Clay Matthews look like a high school linebacker with his ridiculous spin move. Matthews is as talented as they come these days, so that is certainly something to be amazed by.
So, looking to next year, the Cowboys have a lot going for them. With a late first-round pick, they should be looking to better their extremely weak defense. If a first-round pick isn’t enough, they also have a big trading piece in Tony Romo. The Cowboys will not start next season with Romo on the team. There are also plenty of free agents that the Cowboys will need to resign along with some they wouldn’t mind letting go.
Jerry Jones may have finally gotten it right. He has spent years trying to form a team exactly like this one, and it finally has happened, as this young team will be great for many years to come. The Dallas Cowboys will win Super Bowl LII. The already strong offense will be matched with an upgraded defense. Even more promising than draft picks is the incredible 2017 free agent group. Many potential targets are about to hit the open market. If the Cowboys could sign someone like Eric Berry, Prince Amukamara, or Jason Pierre-Paul, the defense would have that leader they have been lacking this season. The Cowboys had many things to be proud of this season, but they aren’t even close to being done.
