The Los Angeles Rams fired head coach Jeff Fisher before the 2016 season ended. They have hired former Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay to take his place.

The Rams have named former Redskins offensive coordinator as their new head coach, kicking off a new era in Los Angelas. In four seasons and part of a fifth season, Jeff Fisher led the team to a 31-45-1 record and never had more than seven wins in a season. After going 4-9 in the team’s first 13 games the Rams decided that it was time to cut ties with Fisher.
The Rams have hired the former Redskins offensive coordinator to replace Fisher. McVay was an important factor in the development in Kirk Cousins and his offensive mind may help the Rams who ranked dead last in every offensive category in the league except rushing, which they ranked 31st.
Los Angeles should have the player personnel to have a successful offense, but they never seemed to put together a successful season. After they drafted quarterback Jared Goff first overall this year and Todd Gurley 10th overall the year before, the Rams were looking to have a potent offense this year, but it didn’t work out that way. The shelf life of a running back in the league is short, and they have a special back in Gurley. If they didn’t improve on the offense they would be wasting the talent of Gurley, who is truly a once in a lifetime talent. Sean McVay should be getting started right away on improving that offense, which has separated the Rams from the rest of the league and prevented them from being contenders.
The Rams had a stout defense under Fisher, but they lacked the offense to be competitors and they are hoping the hiring of an offensive minded head coach fixes that.
