The Dolphins drafted him with the 18th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M. The quarterback started out as a wide receiver in college, but won the starting quarterback job midway through the 2011 season. He went on to throw for 3,415 yards that season and impressed many NFL scouts.
He has led the Dolphins to an 8-4 record in 2016, his best record under center in his career. He’s thrown for 2,800 yards and 16 touchdowns. The win over the Cardinals was their seventh in eight games. They had their six-game win streak snapped last week against the Baltimore Ravens.
Running back Jay Ajayi was a big part of that six-game win streak. He rushed for 200 yards in two consecutive games in October. He has since then just rushed for 100 yards once in their last six games.
Matt Moore is the Man in Miami
With Tannehill out for the remainder of the season, the Dolphins will huddle around backup quarterback Matt Moore. Moore has thrown for 5,356 yards and 33 touchdowns over the course of his nine year career. This is his sixth season in Miami after spending his first three seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
He started 12 games in 2011. He threw for 2,497 yards and 16 touchdowns. If he can repeat that the final three games, the Dolphins will be alive in the playoff race.
Their last three games are against their AFC East rivals – the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots. They need a lot of help and they need to win out, but the Dolphins are still in the playoff race. They will just need to do it without Tannehill.
