Green Bay Packers Week 13 Takeaways

Green Bay Packers Week 13 Takeaways: The Packers held off the Houston Texans in a snowy battle. It was a must-win game and the Pack took care of business.

It was a typical December day at Lambeau Field; cold and snowing. There’s a reason it’s called the “Frozen Tundra” and this is it. It was another must win game for the Green Bay Packers. They were able to hold off the Houston Texans in a slow offensive game due to the weather. The Packers get back to even in the process, as they won 21-14. Here are the Green Bay Packers Week 13 takeaways.

Green Bay Packers Week 13 Takeaways

Aaron Rodgers Overcomes Injury

In a Week 12 match-up, Aaron Rodgers suffered a minor hamstring injury. He was limited all week and came into the game with a questionable tag. It seemed to slow him slightly, but he was able to overcome his limitations. Rodgers threw for just over 200 passing yards, but he completed 20 of 30 pass attempts for two touchdowns.

The weather played a big factor as Rodgers averaged less than ten yards per completion, and this is skewed due to a 32-yard touchdown to Jordy Nelson in the fourth quarter. Rodgers did exactly what he needed to do in this game. He took care of the ball, made accurate throws, and put up some points. The Packers still trail the division lead by two games, but with Rodgers under center this team can’t be counted out just yet.

Packers Get 100 Rushing Yards

This Packers backfield has been a disappointment ever since Eddie Lacy went down. They’ve leaned on Ty Montgomery, James Starks and even Rodgers. However, the downfall of this offense has been the fact that defenses can drop back and ignore the run. This still wasn’t a good game by any one player. It took the Packers 26 carries by six different players to get to 109 yards.

Christine Michael received the most carries by a Packer in the game. He ran for 19 yards on nine carries. Starks, the starting running back, carried the ball just four times for a single yard. Montgomery was probably the most effective player on the ground. He got six carries for 40 yards, along with two catches for 16 yards. Aaron Ripkowski got the only rushing touchdown.

Defense Stops a Bad Offense

The Houston Texans came into this game as one of the lowest scoring offenses in the league. The Packers came in as one of the worst defenses. Green Bay was able to win the battle, as they gave up just 14 points. Brock Osweiler was able to throw two touchdowns, along with 202 yards. The Texans combined for 123 yards on the ground. However, it wouldn’t be enough in this game.

Week 14 Preview

The Packers have a tough challenge ahead as the Seattle Seahawks come to town next week. This is another must win for this team. Seattle is a good all-around team. The Packers defense is going to have to show up to help keep this group in the game.
