Another week, another fantasy spotlight. This week in the spotlight the focus is put on your DFS (daily fantasy sports) teams. If you play DraftKings or FanDuel you know a huge part in making a lineup is looking for that standout value play. The spotlight this week will highlight five players that can be your difference makers in week 12. These players could have low ownership with high potential. The fantasy spotlight is officially turned on for week 12 as we look for those DFS value plays.
Week 12 Fantasy Spotlight: DFS Value Plays
Tyrod Taylor QB Buffalo Bills
Salary: DraftKings $5,900 FanDuel $7,700
Tyrod Taylor and the Buffalo Bills host the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 12. Buffalo currently sits at 5-5 and are on the outside looking in for the playoffs. If Buffalo has any hopes of being a playoff team, this is a game they need to win. Taylor has been good at home. Seven of his 14 touchdowns this season have come in Buffalo’s four home games. The mobility of the Bills quarterback makes him a very intriguing play against the Jaguars 22nd ranked rush defense. Although Jacksonville has fared well against the pass, they rank 25th in points allowed (25.3). More good news for Taylor and the Bills is star wide receiver Sammy Watkins is expected to play for the first time since week two. Watkins will most likely be on a snap count however the threat of him being there will open up the field for Taylor. In a week in which there aren’t too many can’t miss DFS quarterback plays, Taylor offers both potential and value.
Carlos Hyde RB San Francisco 49ers
Salary: DraftKings $4,800 FanDuel $6,800
The San Francisco 49ers take their nine-game losing streak into Miami week 12. While it’s unlikely that streak ends, it is highly likely Carlos Hyde has a good game. Hyde is in his second game back from injury and ran for 86 yards against the New England Patriots last week. At times he looked very determined running the football. Look for that determined running to continue this week against the Miami Dolphins. Miami comes into this week off an improbable win last week against the Los Angeles Rams. Two touchdowns in the final four and a half minutes propelled Miami to their sixth win of the season. However, Miami also brings the league’s 30th ranked rushing defense. Hyde, Colin Kaepernick, and the 49ers will look to expose the Dolphins with their fifth-ranked rushing attack. Carlos Hyde offers tremendous upside in week 12 and will most certainly be less than 10% owned in most fantasy contests.
Rishard Matthews WR Tennessee Titans
Salary: DraftKings $5,800 FanDuel $6,200
Over the past few weeks Rishard Matthews has emerged as the #1 wide receiver for the Tennessee Titans. Marcus Mariota has targeted Matthews 28 times over the past three games. The two have connected on 18 of those and converted three for touchdowns. On paper this a great matchup for the Titans against the Chicago Bears who rank dead last in the league against fantasy wide receivers. The Titans still have hopes of winning the AFC South and with the losses on Monday and Thursday night by the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts respectively, those hopes are still alive. Look for Mariota to continue to target Matthews in Chicago leading to a solid DFS stat line at a value price.
Gary Barnidge TE Cleveland Browns
Salary: DraftKings $3,600 FanDuel $4,800
Nothing is going right on the field for the Cleveland Browns. It has been a carousel of quarterbacks and lack of wins all season. For week 12 the carousel stops on Josh McCown. While this doesn’t excite many in Cleveland, it does excite tight end Gary Barnidge. Last Season with McCown under center most of the year, Barnidge went from no name to going to the Pro Bowl. Even last week in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, McCown and Barnidge hooked up for the only Browns touchdown of the game. While no one expects the Browns to beat the New York Giants, Barnidge will play a key role in what Cleveland does offensively. The Giants rank 21st against opposing tight ends. There is extremely good DFS value here. Use it.
Baltimore Ravens Defense
Salary: DraftKings $3,100 FanDuel $4,500
With the Pittsburgh Steelers win on Thanksgiving night, the Baltimore Ravens need a win to keep pace in the AFC North. Baltimore faces beat up division rival the Cincinnati Bengals. A.J. Green and Giovani Bernard are both out long-term after suffering injuries last week against the Bills. The Ravens will be out to take full advantage of the Bengals depleted offense. Baltimore Ranks seventh against the pass and first against the run. It could be a very long day for the Bengals. Take full advantage of the undervalued Ravens defense in week 12.
