Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has made it official: this is Dak Prescott‘s team now. There are many rumors going around that Romo is considering retirement. There are also rumors that the team will look to trade him to in the off-season. If they are looking to trade him, there’s really only three teams that would be a perfect fit.
The Three New Teams that Would Best Fit Tony Romo
Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals have a good team, but there’s just one thing that is keeping them down, and that’s Carson Palmer. While he did lead them to the NFC Championship Game last season, he is getting old. He doesn’t have much time left on him, if any at all.
Romo may be banged up and be banged up often, but if he were to stay healthy, he would be a perfect fit in Arizona. During his tenure in Dallas, Romo broke records held by some of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. In Arizona, he would shatter Cardinals records.
New York Jets
New York is another great team for Romo. Ryan Fitzpatrick won’t be returning to the team in 2017, Geno Smith isn’t a good quarterback, and their other two quarterbacks aren’t ready to be great. Romo would be a perfect fit for Gang Green. An additional bonus for Romo would be the chance to play with a great wide receiver in Brandon Marshall. With the Jets, he’d also have one of the best number two wideouts in the NFL in Eric Decker.
While the Jets probably won’t win the division under Romo while Tom Brady is still playing, he could make them a Wild Card team. The Jets haven’t made the playoffs since the 2010 season.
Denver Broncos
John Elway would love to have a quarterback like Romo in the Mile High city. Trevor Siemian has been effective for stretches this season, but it’s questionable whether or not Siemian will be the starter in 2017. There will certainly be a competition in training camp and Romo could be part of it.
In Denver, Romo would have a great team around him. Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas are two of the best wide receivers in the AFC. The running game in Denver is also a good one with C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker, should they return in 2017. Denver is playing really well right now. With Romo, they could be looking at a possible Super Bowl appearance.
So Close, But Yet So Far
There are other teams that Romo could be traded to or signed by, but these other teams aren’t contenders. The San Francisco 49ers could use a quarterback, but going there would ruin Romo’s reputation. There’s a lot of problems on the team that would keep them from winning.
One could make the argument that the Jacksonville Jaguars could use Romo as their quarterback. It seems though, that the team still believes in Blake Bortles and would want to stick with him. Why they would want to do that is beyond even Jaguars fans, but that seems like what the team will do.
Another team that could be in serious consideration for Romo to go to is the Minnesota Vikings. Sam Bradford is still Sam Bradford, and he is still an average quarterback. The reason Minnesota is 6-4 is because of their defense. When they lost four in a row, it was on their lack of defense and Bradford’s poor play. With Romo, the offense would be just as good as their defense.
