Pro Football’s Hall of Fame has an antiquated policy of not providing a deceased inductee with the Gold Jacket and Hall of Fame ring that they earned on the field. Living inductees receive all the gifts they earned while playing.
The reason given by the Hall of Fame? They do not want a family fighting over, or selling the jacket or ring. However noble that sounds, it is not their choice to make. Every member, or inductee, of the Hall of Fame, should be treated equally, and receive the same honors and awards. Living or dead.
Kenny Stabler Snubbed Once Again by Pro Football Hall of Fame
Ken Stabler is not the only one. Junior Seau‘s Family was also snubbed as well as every other family of a deceased Inductee.
Kendra Stabler Moyes, daughter of the late great Stabler, said she did not understand why the NFL Hall of Fame would treat her father any differently than any other inductee. She also made it a point that this was not just about her father, but for all the families of deceased inductees. In fact, Kendra never made a stink about this out of respect for her father, and the other members being inducted, when she found out. She did not want this situation to overshadow their moment. It was only after answering an innocuous question on Twitter that the world found out about this.
Mark Davis speaks out about what he describes as an Injustice by the Hall of Fame
Mark Davis had this to say to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.
“No way I should have my dad’s ring and Bruce Allen doesn’t have his dad’s. No way I should have my dad’s ring and Junior Seau‘s family doesn’t have his. Same with Dick Stanfel‘s family, and Kenny’s family. The guy’s earned it and their families should get to enjoy it. This is an injustice that has to be rectified.”
Raider Legend Cliff Branch had this to say,
“It is another tragedy. Kenny Stabler should get all the gifts that go along with being in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. With the grace of God I hope that someday it will be completed with the HoF Ring and Jacket for his family.”
