NFL Week Five Injury Update

The NFL week five injury update didn't have any prominent names that ended up on the injury list, but the players who did play a vital role in their teams overall success. Two of those players include the Minnesota Vikings right tackle Andre Smith and Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Charles Sims.

Below is a list of players from around the league who were injured during week five.

NFL Week Five Injury Update

Minnesota Vikings – Andre Smith

On Monday, the Minnesota Vikings announced that right tackle, Andre Smith, will undergo surgery for a torn triceps, and was placed on the injured reserve, effectively ending Smith’s season.

With the injury to Smith, as well as offensive tackle Matt Kalil back in September, the Vikings signed former No. 1 overall pick, Jake Long, to a one-year deal to help sure up the offensive line.

Arizona Cardinals – Carson Palmer

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer, who suffered a concussion in week four against the Los Angeles Rams, is on track to start for the Cardinals when they face the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.

On Monday, Cardinals head coach, Bruce Arians, told reporters that he expects the veteran signal caller to pass the NFL‘s concussion protocol on Tuesday.

Green Bay Packers – Eddie Lacy

Running back Eddie Lacy of the Green Bay Packers injured his ankle during the Packers 23-16 win against the New York Giants on Sunday night. Lacy did re-enter game against the Giants after having his ankle re-taped, but Packers head coach, Mike McCarthy, told reporters on Monday that he wouldn’t know Lacy’s status for week six until they hit the practice field on Tuesday.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Charles Sims

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed running back Charles Sims on the injured reserve with a knee injury. With the Buccaneers starting running back, Doug Martin, still working through a hamstring injury, and backup Charles Sims on the IR, Jacquizz Rodgers will serve as the primary back with undrafted free-agent Peyton Barber serving as his backup until Martin is able to return.

Cleveland Browns – Cody Kessler and Josh McCown

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL NetworkCleveland Browns rookie quarterback, Cody Kessler, will not miss anytime after injuring his ribs in their week five loss to the New England Patriots.

After breaking his collarbone three weeks ago, Browns veteran quarterback Josh McCown will return to practice this week. Head coach Hue Jackson, however, has indicated that third-round pick, Cody Kessler, who is listed as day-to-day with a rib injury, is likely to start against the Tennessee Titans in week six.

Denver Broncos – Trevor Siemian

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network has reported that Denver Broncos quarterback, Trevor Siemian, will be back under center Thursday night when the Broncos take on the San Diego Chargers.

Siemian injured his non-throwing shoulder in Denver’s week four win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

New York Giants – Eli Apple and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

Both cornerbacks, Eli Apple and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie suffered groin injuries during the New York Giants 23-16 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night. Their status heading into week six is still unclear. The Giants secondary has been besieged with injuries.
