Governor Brian Sandoval Releases Statement on Nevada Special Session

Governor Sandoval releases statement on the need for a special session of the Nevada Legislature in which a potential Las Vegas based NFL stadium is to be discussed.

Just yesterday, I wrote an article on Governor Brian Sandoval preparing the Nevada Legislature for a special session. This situation is very fluid, and as such, has changed over night.

Clark and Washoe County Commissions have pushed back their meetings to appoint vacancies in the Nevada Legislature. This is due, in part, to concerns over public meeting laws. Both counties failed to list those considered for appointment on the public agenda. Washoe County will make it’s appointments to the legislature the last week of September. Clark County will make it’s appointments the first week of October.

Governor Brian Sandoval Releases Statement on the Need for a Special Session of the Nevada Legislature.

Here is an excerpt from the Governors statement on holding a special session.

…“Based on the current environment, I believe a special session of the Legislature is warranted and should be called as soon as can be practicably accomplished. The appointments to fill legislative vacancies by the Washoe and Clark County Commissions will not occur until the last week of September and first week of October, respectively. I feel strongly that any newly appointed or current legislators should be given enough time to review the recommendations and conduct their own due diligence and to allow for ample time to prepare for a special session of the Nevada Legislature. That is why it is my intention to begin a special session no earlier than Friday, October 7 and no later than Thursday, October 13, pending conversations with legislative leadership. The formal proclamation detailing the agenda will not be made until a later date.”…

Many insiders I have spoken to are suggesting the 10th of October as the target date. They also believe that the session should last no longer than four days.

Should Nevada ink the Oakland Raiders Stadium Proposal, it will go to the NFL League Office. There it will be reviewed by the 32 owners. Mark Davis will file for relocation in December. Then in January, at the owners meeting, they will vote on whether, or not, to approve the relocation.
