The breakdown of Slater’s new deal looks like this:
- $900,000 in base salary
- A $600,000 signing bonus
- An additional roster bonus of $300,000 if he appears in all 16 games ($18,750/game)
On top of retaining their best special teams player, the new contract actually lowers New England’s cap hit to $1.65 million. The Patriots had previously signed Slater to a 2-year, $4 million dollar contract following the 2014 season.
