Back in Action: The Triumphant Return of the NASCAR Mexico Series

After Toyota announced they were dropping their sponsorship of the NASCAR Mexico Series it left a lot of worry in the minds of Mexican NASCAR fans.  The future of not only the series, but its drivers too were also at stake. The Series was left in limbo until the decision to fold was formally announced at the end of the 2015 season. That meant that for the first time in nearly 12 years, Mexico would be without a top level racing league. Fans, drivers, and team owners were heartbroken by the announcement, as there would now no longer be a pro development series for up and coming Mexican drivers.

That is until an announcement was made at the Intercontinental Presidente Hotel in Mexico City on October 18th. NASCAR executive Vice President, Steve O’Donnell made the formal announcement that NASCAR has partnered with Old World Industries and has made Peak Motor Oil the official title sponsor of NASCAR Mexico.

Peak Motor Oil has had a long history in auto racing, sponsoring the likes of Clint Bowyer and Danica Patrick. They also serve as the title sponsor the NASCAR Peak Series, a NASCAR sanctioned eSports league run by iracing.com.

The NASCAR Mexico Series has become a wealth of fresh talent including the aforementioned Daniel Suarez, defending Series champion Ruben Garcia Jr, and the driver with the most wins in the series’ history, Rogelio Lopez. This is one of the main reasons as to why NASCAR has chosen to revive the series.

Lou Garente, NASCAR’s vice president of partnership marketing stated in an interview with NASCAR.com that: ‘We remain steadfast in our commitment to develop young talent and engage our passionate fan base in Mexico.’ Daniel Suarez made a statement saying how proud he was to be a Mexican driver and how he was thankful for his time the NASCAR Mexico Series.

The NASCAR Peak Mexico Series will be back in action December 3rd and 4th for exhibition races in Mexico City. The Series’ 10th season will commence in 2017 with the full schedule being announced at a later date.
