What We Hope To Learn About Clemson at the ACC Football Kickoff

The best indication that the college football season is around the corner is when conference media days begin. In July, before fall camp, media and fans get to hear directly from coaches and players about what excites their program most heading into the season. It is a time to get a sense of what individual program goals are for the season and how they will be achieved. Media days are also a great time to hear some great quotes from fired-up coaches and players ready to start the season.

After winning the conference championship for the eighth time in the last ten years, Clemson walks into the ACC Football Kickoff as the team to beat once again. The Tigers are the favorite to win the conference for the second year in a row. Many believe it is not a very close competition for the rest of the ACC.

There are sure to be a few teams who will have something to say about that, though. It will be interesting to see how much focus will be on what needs to be done for the Tigers to stay atop the ACC, compared to the bigger goal of winning the national championship.

ACC Football Kickoff Details

The 2025 ACC Football Kickoff takes place over three days starting July 22 and ending July 24. The event will happen inside the Hilton Charlotte Uptown in Charlotte, North Carolina. The ACC will be broadcasting every day of the event on its network starting at 9 am each day.

All 17 teams in the ACC will be a part of the kickoff event. Each day, a different group of teams will be showcased. The individual programs will be represented by their head coach and four leaders from the team. Clemson will be featured on the last day of the event alongside Boston College, North Carolina, NC State, Duke, and Virginia Tech.

The Tigers That Will Be Attending

Tagging along with Dabo Swinney in Charlotte will be a great group of Clemson representatives, starting with his Heisman-contending quarterback. Cade Klubnik will be attending his second straight ACC Football Kickoff, but this time, the conversations around him are much different. Klubnik goes from being one of the biggest question marks in the conference to its biggest star. All eyes will be on the senior signal caller and how he handles the pressure.

Having his number one receiver with him will help tremendously, though, as Antonio Williams will also be attending the ACC Football kickoff. Williams was named Second-Team All-ACC last season. He was one of two receivers in the conference last season with double-digit touchdowns (11). Williams is expected to be Klubnik’s top target once again in 2025.

The two defensive players that will represent Clemson in Charlotte are the two leaders of arguably the best defensive line in college football, TJ Parker and Peter Woods. Parker, like Williams, was also named Second-Team All-ACC in 2024. He earned the honor after recording 19.5 tackles for loss and 11 sacks. He has been a key piece of the Tiger defense since his first day on campus.

The same goes for Woods, who played both defensive end and tackle last season. He is a top-three player in all of college football by PFF. With Woods now back in his natural position on the interior of the defensive line, he is expected to have a great junior season.

What We Hope To Learn

Given the representatives chosen for the ACC Football Kickoff, we should get good insight into the state of the 2025 Clemson team. There are not as many question marks around this team as in the past few years. There are still some things that media and fans can get answers to from a national championship contender.

Offensively, the biggest questions are around the Tigers’ ability to build on the momentum from last season. Since Trevor Lawrence moved on to the NFL, Clemson has not been very explosive offensively. It was a gripe many Clemson fans had while the Tigers struggled to get back to the national championship stage. In 2024, the big-play ability of the Clemson offense came back. Klubnik nearly doubled his touchdown pass total between 2023 and 2024 from 19 to 36. It will be great to hear how the offense believes it will build off of last season’s success.

From the defensive side, we want to hear about how the Tom Allen impact will translate to game day. We have talked much about how badly the Clemson defense underperformed in 2024. The Tigers gave up over 150 rushing yards in each of their last four games. In three of those four games, the opponent rushed for over 250 yards. This is why Allen was brought in. It has been reported that Allen has brought a level of intensity reminiscent of Brent Venables. Now we want to know how this group is responding to Allen and how that will take shape on Saturdays.
