Greg Schiano has been on a tear and the Rutgers 2025 recruiting class is shaping up to be one of the tops in the country. With a tweet, four-star New Jersey native DJ McClary flipped his commitment from Penn State to Rutgers. McClary marks the FBS-most 28th commitment in the 2025 class. The Scarlet Knights’ class is now ranked as the ninth-best in the nation and second-best in the Big Ten.

McClary is considered by 247Sports as the 23rd-best linebacker in the nation and sixth-best in New Jersey. He’s the third linebacker commit and the ninth from the Garden State. 20 of Rutgers’ 28 commits have come in June.

The 6′-1″, 211-pound linebacker is well-known in the recruiting spheres for his hard-hitting abilities and overall athleticism. He is a do-it-all player for Henry Snyder High School. On offense, he serves as quarterback, completing 50-of-177 last year for 793 yards and seven touchdowns. On the ground, he added 1,420 yards and 19 touchdowns. Defensively, he amassed 94 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, two sacks, and an interception in his junior season.

Thus far in his career, McClary has lit up every section of the stat sheet. As a linebacker, he’s notched 321 total tackles, 52.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two pick-sixes. As Henry Snyder’s quarterback, he has accounted for 1,299 yards and nine touchdowns through the air and 4,173 yards and 52 touchdowns on the ground.

There is a familial flare to this commitment as well. McClary’s older brother, Isaac Holmes, suited up for Rutgers from 2010-13 during Schiano’s first stint with the program.

He’s considered a four-star linebacker across each of the major recruiting services. At a New Jersey Under Armour Camp, McClary earned the linebacker MVP. Additionally, he is a U.S. Army All-American.

He held offers from other Big Ten rivals Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, USC, Illinois, and Minnesota.
