Don’t look now. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights currently own a top-10 recruiting class for the 2025 cycle. Greg Schiano‘s squad has 24 commitments, easily the most in the nation. On Saturday, Rutgers recruiting got another kick with the commitment of in-state running back, John Forster.

Forster is considered a three-star recruit for On3, 247Sports, and ESPN‘s systems. However, Rivals is much higher on Forster. According to them, he’s a four-star all-purpose back and is the fifth-best running back in this cycle. According to Rivals, however, Rutgers is sitting firmly as the sixth-best recruiting class in the nation.

For Rutgers, Forster marks the 24th commitment for Schiano’s club and the eighth from New Jersey. According to 247Sports, Forster is the fifth-best recruit for Rutgers and the first declared running back of the class. Four-star athlete Talibi Kaba committed to Rutgers in February as an athlete. While Kaba is a star running back for his high school, he projects to be a linebacker at the next level.

Forster chose Rutgers over 18 other programs that offered him. His top three were Rutgers, Illinois, and Wisconsin. His dual-threat abilities will serve the Scarlet Knights offense well when he gets on campus.

As a sophomore in 2022, Forster ran the ball 50 times for 451 yards and five touchdowns. As a receiver, he added 13 receptions for 358 yards and three scores. He had two 100-yard rushing games and one 100-yard receiving game. Last year, he finished with 313 yards and four touchdowns off 51 rushing attempts and added 114 yards and one touchdown off 14 receptions.

He’s a five-foot-ten, 190-pound dynamic back who looks like he will garner plenty of snaps as a freshman in 2025. Forster has an ideal build with what 247Sports calls a “mature play style.” He patiently allows blocks to develop and can make a decisive cut or accelerate through the hole with great vision. They go one to note that he has three-down back potential due to his ability to make plays as a receiving back and in pass protection. He could even be trusted to line up as a receiver.

Forster flashes on tape and is a well-rounded running back for the Rutgers recruiting class. He could be an instant impact player for Rutgers.
