The Ohio State recruiting efforts were put into full force this weekend as several top recruits and commitments were in town. One of those top targets was three-star interior offensive linemen, Jake Cook. Cook is considered to be the 28th-best recruit from the state of Ohio and currently the 54th-best overall in the nation.

Cook represents the 18th commitment to the Buckeyes in the cycle and is second on the offensive line, joining fellow Ohio native, Carter Lowe.

Ohio State Recruiting Gets a Bump With Jake Cook

Initially committed to Louisville for over four months, the Westerville North star decommitted after receiving an Ohio State offer. He’s seen an incredible rise in his rankings. When he initially committed to the Cardinals, Cook was unranked by the 247Sports Composite.

At Westerville North, Cook plays as one of the tackles and even earned an All-Ohio Honorable Mention for Division I (Ohio’s division for its largest schools). 247SportsAllen Treiu projects Cook to end up kicking inside with a very likely landing spot at center for a Power 4 program. His play has been described as tenacious and violent with his hands. He’s the type to play to and through the whistle. He will need to work on explosiveness and agility, so Cook is likely more of a project than a year-one contributor.

The Report on Cook

Perhaps his best features are his intangibles and leadership qualities. 247Sports spoke with Cook’s offensive coordinator at Westerville North, Marcus Ray, and he raved:

“His teammates love him. He’s a leader, he wants to be a great player and has the self-discipline to do that and that speaks to his father and mother. He’s a great kid from a good family. [Jake’s] respectful. He’s committed to the little things and putting in extra weight room work. He’s a chin-up guy, never down on himself. [Jake’s] exceptional in the classroom, a well-rounded student-athlete who is fun to coach and wants to learn. He shows up to all meetings and leans the offense cause I changed the blocking scheme. He shows up and delivers. He’s a powerful, positive presence in the classroom and on the field.”

This offseason, Cook was named as offensive line MVP at an Under Armour Next camp. He earned the same honors at a Rivals camp as well.
