Michigan State Recruit, Donovan Winter in Jail

There are always strange stories on National Signing Day and this is one of the more unfortunate ones. Donovan Winter, a three star defensive end recruit from Bishop More High School in Orlando, Florida was slated to sign with Michigan State today. Instead, Winter was in Seminole County Jail, being held on a $2,000 bond and facing charges of burglary and larceny of a firearm.

He had 24 tackles his senior season and was offered by Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, Pittsburgh and Eastern Michigan and verbally committed to Michigan State late last Fall. The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Winter has been expelled from his school because of the arrest, and thus he would be ineligible to sign with anyone. Because he never signed his letter, Michigan State said they were not allowed to comment on his status.

In any event this is not good news for the young recruit, or for his status in the program. We will follow the story and update as more news becomes available.
