2022 Championship Week Heisman Rankings

2022 Championship Week Heisman Rankings

We’ve made it to Championship Week, which is the last opportunity to impress the voters. Between injuries and unexpected losses at the top, there has been some clear separation at the top of our leaderboard this week, We’ll dive into that and more as we break down the contenders in our 2022 Championship Week Heisman rankings.

It appears to be a battle between Caleb Williams and Max Duggan whose teams incidentally face a win and you’re in scenario for the College Football Playoffs as well. But, what would happen if both USC and TCU were to lose in their respective conference championship games? Does that open the door for C.J. Stroud? Could Hendon Hooker find himself back in the race? With that, let’s take a look as we unveil our 2022 Championship Week Heisman rankings.

5 Bryce Young QB 20
6 Hendon Hooker QB 7

Top Five Candidates

1. Caleb Williams

QB | USC                                                                                                                                                                     Next Game: 12/2 vs Utah

Williams has had an opportunity here late in the season and took full advantage. Between injuries, poor performances, and team losses over the last month Williams now finds himself as the clear-cut favorite to win the award at this point. He accounted for four total scores in the Trojans’ victory over Notre Dame. He has one more battle to fight this evening against Utah in the PAC 12 Championship where the Heisman and a spot in the College Football Playoff is on the line.

2. Max Duggan

QB | TCU                                                                                                                                                                                 Next Game: 12/2 vs Kansas State

Duggan finds himself in a very similar position as his former Big 12 colleague. The only difference is that Duggan likely needs a loss by USC combined with a solid game and a win over Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship Game. Be that as it may, Duggan has been one of the more efficient Quarterbacks in the country with 34 total touchdowns and only three turnovers. Does he have one more great performance left in him to carry his Horned Frogs into the playoffs?

3. C.J. Stroud

QB | Ohio State                                                                                                                                                                         Next Game: TBD

Different year, the same result as the Buckeye’s regular season ended with a disappointing loss to rival Michigan. Even though he threw for 349 yards in the game, the two interceptions were crucial. Stroud has thrown for 81 touchdowns in just two seasons as the starter in Columbus. The Buckeyes will hope for some luck and await their fate, but Stroud likely will need some help to get back in the Heisman front-runner position.

Unfortunately, Corum was not able to be his normal self and only had two carries for six yards against Ohio State on Saturday. This week it was announced that he would have season-ending surgery to repair his knee. However, that doesn’t take anything away from Corum as one of the most consistent running backs in the country with over 1,500 yards from scrimmage and 19 touchdowns.

5. Bryce Young

QB | Alabama                                                                                                                                                                                     Next Game: TBD

It’s been a tough season for Young and Crimson Tide based on preseason expectations. However, Young has fought himself back into the top five this week. Injuries and inexperience at the wide receiver position have caused Young’s numbers to dip dramatically this season. With that being said, Young has still been one of the best players in the country over the last couple of seasons.
