After a full month of the season, the Heisman trophy race is very much a wide-open one. However, as we begin to approach the halfway point in the season there’s still so much that can happen. Again, which seems like happens each week, we have seen a player in Will Anderson who was in the top five at this point last week only to not receive a single vote this week. But, who would be his replacement? We’ll dive into that and more as we break down the contenders in our 2022 Week Five Heisman rankings.
We have one new addition to the top five of the 2022 week four Heisman rankings. With Bryce Young going down with an injury and C.J. Stroud having a game that provided his lowest yardage ever who will grab that top spot? Will Jalon Daniels be able to hold on to that top spot or will we see the addition of a certain Michigan running back? With that, let’s take a look as we unveil our 2022 Week Five Heisman rankings.

Top Five Candidates
1. C.J. Stroud
QB | Ohio State Next Game: 10/8 at Michigan State
Ohio State dominated Rutgers as expected to the tune of a 49-10 rout. What wasn’t expected is that Stroud threw for a career-low 154 yards. However, he was able to add a couple of touchdowns to his season total. In the back-and-forth weekly battle between him and Young, Stroud has the benefit of playing a struggling Michigan State team this weekend where he should get back to his normal self.

2. Bryce Young
QB | Alabama Next Game: 10/8 vs Texas A&M
Young suffered an injury against Arkansas on Saturday just when the Crimson Tide offense was humming. Maybe not the injury specifically, but the unsure nature as to when he might return has dropped him back to number two. Be that as it may, this weekend is a game that many Alabama fans have circled on their calendar all summer, and would be a shame if we didn’t see Young participate in this one.

3. Caleb Williams
QB | USC Next Game: 10/8 vs Washington State
After a very sub-par game last week against Oregon State, Williams bounced back with 348 yards and three touchdowns against Arizona State. He did throw his first interception of the season, however. Now, USC hosts upstart Washington State who recently gave up 44 points to Oregon. Williams should be able to have another great game in the Coliseum.

4. Hendon Hooker
QB | Tennessee Next Game: 10/8 at LSU
Hooker was able to fend off a pesky Bye team to remain in the top five. Still on a high over Florida, the top 10 Vols now have a top-five finalist in Hooker. He’s been one of the most prolific quarterbacks over the past two years with 39 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He’ll have an enormous opportunity this week in Baton Rouge.

5. Jalon Daniels
QB | Kansas Next Game: 10/8 vs TCU
Despite a performance that was not becoming of a Heisman Trophy winner, Daniels managed to barely stay in the top five this week. Daniels barely eclipsed the 100 total yardage mark in a 14-11 victory over Iowa State. However, the win set Daniels and the Jayhawks up for their moment. College Gameday will be live from Lawrence, Kansas for the first time ever and a great performance against TCU could vault him up.
