How Will The Aggies’ Recruiting Class Fare?

Aggies Recruiting Class

The Texas A&M Aggies currently have the top recruiting class for 2022 according to 247Sports. There is a lot of hype that this class may pan out to be the best ever. Texas A&M recently learned of Harold Perkins’ decommitment, and he will now announce his decision on February 2nd. There is still potential for him to sign with Texas A&M, but this is a great recruiting class regardless. The Aggies have earned the recruiting crown by getting 27 commits including six five-stars and 18 four-stars. However, it won’t matter unless Texas A&M competes for SEC and national championships in the coming years.

First Season

The recruits from the 2022 class will only be freshmen next season. Don’t expect for them all to get much playing time. However, the top commits such as wide receiver Evan Stewart could be featured on next year’s offense. This is primarily due to the current lack of a receiving threat. He does have a solid chance of seeing the field in 2022 due to already being an enrollee and learning the scheme.

Walter Nolen is also anticipated to play next season, and he is a force on the defensive front. These two top-10 athletes will make their presence known on the 2022 squad. However, the rest of the class will need time to develop. Max Johnson will likely be the starting quarterback over Haynes King and incoming freshman Conner Weigman, so it will be tough for Texas A&M to make that jump quickly.

While the Aggies are expected to improve from their 8-4 record this year, it will still be hard for them to get past Alabama and win the SEC West.

Second Season

The primary worry for Jimbo Fisher in 2023 should be the transfer portal. If these recruits do not think they will get playing time by next Spring, they will likely test the waters elsewhere. Regardless, Fisher’s job is to put the best players out on the field. If those top commits haven’t improved by next year, Texas A&M will have to move on.

Expect Connor Weigman to win the starting quarterback job in 2023. That season will also be an opportune time for the Aggies to strike, for Alabama will expectedly be in a down year with the departure of Bryce Young and Will Anderson. Nonetheless, Darrell Dickey will have to do his best to make Texas A&M’s offense both balanced and prolific. In today’s era of college football, you need great quarterback play paired with first-class athletes to win big games.

The Aggies will have a good chance to reach and win the SEC Championship in 2023. If Texas A&M doesn’t reach those goals, Fisher will have to answer some hard questions and make big decisions.

Third Season

2024 will really be the final year for Fisher with his 2022 recruiting class. It is very likely that these high-end recruits will pursue their NFL dreams following their junior season. For this reason, don’t be surprised if the Aggies are among the contenders to win the national championship in 2024. It comes down to a matter of whether or not Texas A&M can execute on both sides of the ball.

The Aggies’ defense should be among the top of the SEC every season with new defensive coordinator DJ Durkin. If Weigman is really a first-round talent, he will propel Texas A&M to the next level as one of the top scoring offenses. This is the year that the Aggies must win to truly become a powerhouse in the SEC.

All in all, the expectations are that the Aggies win a national championship before the 2025 season with this top recruiting class. While these are rather high aspirations, they are valid due to all the talent from this class: perhaps the best ever.

Concluding Thoughts

Fisher is one of the better head coaches in college football, and his national championship should speak for that. Texas A&M has had one good year in 2020, and now the Aggies are expected to make a run for it all. The Aggies’ 2022 recruiting class is truly one for the ages, and Fisher must get over the SEC hump to lead his squad to a national championship in the forthcoming years.
