Texas A&M vs. Wake Forest in TaxSlayer Gator Bowl

Texas A&M Wake Forest

The Texas A&M Aggies have been chosen to play against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the 77th TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. This matchup will be played on December 31st at 10 A.M. CST. This bowl bid was expected for the Aggies, and they will face a potent offense in Wake Forest on New Year’s Eve. Here’s a brief breakdown of Texas A&M’s opponent for the bowl game.

Who is Wake Forest?

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons reached this bowl game due to a devastating loss against the Pittsburgh Panthers in the ACC Championship. Wake Forest finished 10-3 on the year, which is the second best record in the SEC. Quarterback Sam Hartman was electric for the Demon Deacons in 2021, finishing with nearly 4,000 passing yards and 36 touchdowns. Wake Forest’s offense also features three running backs who rushed for over 450 yards on the season.

While Wake Forest’s offense puts 41.3 points per game, its defense has given up 30 points per game and almost 400 yards per game. In fact, Wake Forest’s defense gave up 45 points to Pittsburgh and 48 points to Clemson. Texas A&M’s game with Wake Forest definitely has the potential to be a shootout. If that’s the case, the Aggies will need to have Zach Calzada and their plethora of running backs ready for a showdown.

Concluding Thoughts

The Texas A&M Aggies actually recently faced the Demon Deacons in a bowl game back in 2o17. In the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, Wake Forest beat Texas A&M 55-52 in a high scoring affair. The Aggies have proven that they can compete with prolific offenses by beating Alabama back in October. However, Jimbo Fisher will need a collective performance from his team to win this game against Wake Forest. Still, there are four weeks for Texas A&M to prepare its game plan for Wake Forest, and there’s a lot left to discuss on Wake Forest; more to come soon.
