As hard as it is to believe, we’re near the half-point in the college football season. With that, the Heisman race is certainly heating up as we get into the meat of the conference schedule. Currently, Bryce Young has solidified his spot in the ranking. However, as rapid as upsets are occurring nothing would be surprising at this point. Before that, let’s take a look at some of the contenders in our 2021 week four Heisman rankings.

We have two running backs that have made their way into the top five in this week’s rankings. Kenneth Walker III and Bijan Robinson are the leading rushers in the country and hope to capitalize off of a rare non-QB award winner a year ago. With that being said, let’s take a look as we unveil our 2021 week five Heisman rankings.

Top Five Candidates

1. Bryce Young

QB | Alabama                                                                                                                                                                    Next Game: 10/9 at Texas A&M

Young continues to distance himself from the pack with another solid performance on a big stage. He threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns and only one interception against Ole Miss. Even though the Tide relied more on the running game, Young continued to show pinpoint accuracy. The Tide travel to College Station on Saturday against a reeling Aggies squad that is looking to save their season.

2. Kenneth Walker III

RB | Michigan State                                                                                                                                                                        Next Game: 10/9 at Rutgers

Walker continued his stellar early-season play with 126 yards on the ground as well as three touchdowns. Ohio State ran for just over 200 yards against Rutgers last week so Walker has a chance to keep himself on the map and right there as the best running back in the country. Walker and the overall success of the Spartans have been one of the big surprises of the season.

4. Matt Corral

QB | Ole Miss                                                                                                                                                                                          Next Game: 10/9 vs Arkansas

Even though Corral and the Rebels lost fairly convincingly to Alabama on Saturday, he still put himself in a position to stay firm in the Heisman race. Completing 21 of 29 passes for 213 yards with one touchdown and no turnovers will do just that. Ole Miss returns home on Saturday to face Arkansas who is looking for a much-improved game after being dominated at Georgia last weekend.

5. Desmond Ridder

QB | Cincinnati                                                                                                                                                                              Next Game: 10/8 vs Temple

Maybe no other person personifies the heartbeat of their team more than Ridder. He’s not always going to wow you with eye-popping statistics or huge plays, but he’s a winner. His 297 yard, two-touchdown performance indicated just that against Notre Dame last week that vaulted both him and the Bearcats into the number five position this week.
