2021 Preseason Heisman Rankings

2022 Week One Heisman Rankings

We are a mere nine days away from kicking off the 2021 College Football season. Even though we may not completely return to normal, a more prototypical season looks to be in the cards. A big part of the pageantry that is college football is the Heisman Trophy. It is still one of the most prestigious awards in sports today. With that being said, let’s begin to take a look at our 2021 preseason Heisman rankings.

The quarterbacks still reign supreme with eight of the 14 receiving votes are from that position. Spencer Rattler, Sam Howell, D.J. Uiagalelei, Matt Corral headline that group. However, a solid stable of running backs led by the Big 12’s Breece Hall and Bijan Robinson are the type of workhorse backs that could win the award. Or, might we see another wide receiver such as Devonta Smith win the award in a surprising fashion. With that being said, let’s unveil our 2021 preseason Heisman rankings.

Top Five Candidates

1. Spencer Rattler

QB | Oklahoma                                                                                                                                                                                           Next Game: 9/4 at Tulane

Rattler had a tale of two seasons last year for the Sooners. He threw five interceptions in his first four games, but only two in the final eight games. Coincidentally, Oklahoma won all eight of those games. The Sophomore will look to make a similar second-year jump that previous Heisman winners Sam Bradford and Jason White did en route to another Heisman trophy for the Sooners.

2. Sam Howell

QB | North Carolina                                                                                                                                                                         Next Game: 9/3 at Virginia Tech

Howell is a trendy Heisman and number one overall NFL draft pick in the 2022 season. Howell was already one of the best quarterbacks in the country last year but should be even better with a full Spring and Fall camp. The Tar Heels lose a lot at the skill position so he will have to rely on an offensive line that returns all five starters. Howell has a tricky opening weekend game in Blacksburg against Virginia Tech.

3. D.J. Uiagalelei

QB | Clemson                                                                                                                                                                                             Next Game: 9/4 vs Georgia

Uiagalelei got his feet wet against Boston College and Notre Dame last season. He helped orchestrate a comeback win against the Eagles and threw for 439 yards and accounted for three total touchdowns. Now, it’s Uiagalelei’s team and with only walk-on’s behind him he may have more pressure on him than anyone in the country. Speaking of pressure, there’s no time to get ready with Georgia ready to pounce in week one.

4. Breece Hall

RB | Iowa State                                                                                                                                                                             Next Game: 9/4 vs Northern Iowa

Hall comes into the 2021 season as the premier running back in the country in terms of established productivity. In the past at a place like Iowa State, Hall might not have received the exposure. However, Iowa State is ranked in the preseason top 10 for the first time in program history. But, with a few high profile games, this season Hall will have the opportunity to legitimize his spot

5. JT Daniels

QB | Georgia                                                                                                                                                                                              Next Game: 9/4 vs Clemson

Daniels envigorated a stagnant offense towards the tail end of the 2020 season culminating with a win over Cincinnati. Arguably, Georgia could be the most talented team in the country this season. And, Daniels will have a wealth of talent to throw to on the outside. However, the injuries are beginning to mount up in preseason camp. With the opening game against Clemson, a win and a solid performance could catapult him up the rankings.
