The best weekend of the season certainly lived up to its hype. Specifically, on the Heisman front, we saw Justin Fields and Zach Wilson continue their hot play. Additionally, we saw Kyle Trask re-enter the discussion with his monster game against Georgia. But, perhaps the biggest question is if another missed game from Trevor Lawrence is enough to move him off the top line. Let’s take a look as we unveil our week 9 2020 Heisman rankings.
As big as last week was for the Heisman contenders, this week will, unfortunately, be underwhelming. Between Covid suspensions and cancellations only one of our top five will be in action this week. But, as we’ve come accustomed to in 2020 this season is a marathon and not a sprint. Having said that, let’s look at the extended leader board in our week 9 2020 Heisman rankings.

Top Five Candidates
1. Justin Fields
QB | Ohio State Next Game: 11/21 vs Indiana
Fields has gotten off to an absolutely torrid start to the season. He has 13 total touchdowns and 11 incompletions in the first three games of the season. And, that has moved him into the lead in this week’s Heisman rankings. But, like many of this week’s participants, the Buckeyes game against Maryland has been canceled. Ohio State will return home on November 21st against one of the surprising leaders of the Big Ten against Indiana.

2. Mac Jones
QB | Alabama Next Game: 11/21 vs Kentucky
Not much has changed for Jones with the Tide having a bye week last week. However, Jones will have another week to wait as their rivalry game has been postponed this week against LSU. Even though he will have missed two consecutive weeks, he holds strong at the number two spot. The Tide will host Kentucky on November 21st as one of the best defenses in the conference.

3. Trevor Lawrence
QB | Clemson Next Game: 11/21 at Florida State
Lawrence was diagnosed with Covid and missed his second game in a row against Notre Dame. The Tigers lost their first regular-season game in nearly three years. However, D.J. Uiagalelei continued to perform well with 439 yards passing and three total touchdowns. So, the question remains as to whether Lawrence’s value has been diminished. Clemson is off this week and they will travel to Florida State on November 21st. Lawrence will find himself trying to fight back to the top spot against the Seminoles.

4. Kyle Trask
QB | Florida Next Game: 11/14 vs Arkansas
Trask got the Gators back into the SEC championship and College Football Playoff discussion while inserting himself back into the Heisman race. The Gators finally beat Georgia in dominating fashion behind Trask’s 474 yards and four touchdowns through the air. Trask is one of the few candidates that will be in action this week as the Gators host Arkansas. This game should create some intrigue due to Feleipe Franks playing against his old team.

5. Zach Wilson
QB | BYU Next Game: 11/21 vs North Alabama
Wilson and BYU passed their toughest test of the season on Friday night against Boise State. The Cougars won the game 51-17 and Wilson threw for 360 yards and three touchdown passes through the air and an additional score on the ground. The fact that he played as well as he did and he still dropped a spot is telling for Wilson. Barring a huge meltdown from the other candidates it will be a tough road ahead for the Cougar signal-caller.
