With all due respect to the SEC which gets started on September 26th, college football is finally back. Our first full week saw some rust, an awful weekend from the Big 12, and some terrific opening weekend performances. With their 3-0 weekend against the Big 12, could we see a few Sun Belt Conference players make our rankings? Let’s begin to take a look at our week one 2020 Heisman rankings.
Even with the Big 12 middle-tier teams struggling, that was not the case for Spencer Rattler and Sam Ehlinger as they led impressive performances for Oklahoma and Texas. However, one can’t take away from the dominating performance put up by Trevor Lawrence in Clemson’s easy win over Wake Forest. Are there any surprises in this week’s rankings? Now, let’s unveil our week one 2020 Heisman rankings.

Top Five Candidates
1. Trevor Lawrence
QB | Clemson Next Game: 9/19 vs The Citadel
Lawrence looks NFL ready in his current form. He was deadly against an outmatched Wake Forest defense on Saturday. The Tigers dominated from the start due to 351 yards through the air and three total scores. Lawrence looks destined for a half of football this Saturday as the Tigers host The Citadel.

2. Spencer Rattler
QB | Oklahoma Next Game: 9/26 vs Kansas State
In his first start in an Oklahoma uniform, Rattler looked the part of his predecessors. He threw for nearly 300 yards in the first half of the Sooners dismantling of FCS Missouri State. Rattler only had three incompletions with two of those being drops. The Sooners slate gets tougher as they host Kansas State on the 26th.

3. Sam Ehlinger
QB | Texas Next Game: 9/26 at Texas Tech
With all due respect to Rattler, Ehlinger may have been the best quarterback in the Big 12 on Saturday. Ehlinger threw for over 400 yards and five touchdowns in just a half. The fifth-year senior who could come back next year is primed for an outstanding season in Austin.

4. Travis Etienne
RB | Clemson Next Game: 9/19 vs The Citadel
Even though he continually gets upstaged by Lawrence, but Etienne had a wonderful opener. Etienne keeps proving why he is one of the most complete backs in the country. He had nearly 150 yards of total offense. Like Lawrence, he figures to only play a small amount this weekend.

5. Chuba Hubbard
RB | Oklahoma State Next Game: 9/19 vs Tulsa
Hubbard was the only one in the top five who has not played as of yet. However, the Cowboys will host Tulsa this Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium. Hubbard was arguably the best back in the country last year and he should get off to a fast start against the Golden Hurricane.
