After three weeks, this race is turning into a two-man race. Now, it’s extremely early in the season and anything can happen as we get into the conference season. However, Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts are the clear leaders in the clubhouse. Do we have another flip-flop in our rankings? Let’s see as we unveil our week three 2019 Heisman rankings.

It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen an LSU offensive player in Heisman consideration. But, that’s exactly what we have as Joe Burrow makes his debut in the top five. Also, we have a newcomer in this weeks list in Chuba Hubbard after his 250+ yard performance against Tulsa on Saturday. Now, let’s see where the chips fall in our week three 2019 Heisman rankings.

Top Five Candidates

1. Tua Tagovailoa

QB | Alabama                                                           Next Game: 9/21 vs Southern Miss

Tagovailoa had his best game of the season as he carved up the South Carolina secondary. He threw for 444 yards and five touchdowns and the Crimson Tide’s toughest test of the season. Alabama will have a stat-padding contest as they host Southern Mississippi this weekend.

2. Jalen Hurts

QB | Oklahoma                                                      Next Game: 9/28 vs Texas Tech

Hurts continues his see-saw with Tagovailoa. He lands in the second spot here merely due to the competition he has faced. And, he likely won’t face a formidable defense until the Red River Showdown. Be that as it may, Hurts has been incredible this season. Through three games, he has accounted for more touchdowns than he has thrown incompletions.

3. Joe Burrow

QB | LSU                                                      Next Game: 9/21 at Vanderbilt

With all due respect to Hurts, Burrow is the most improved player in college football this season. The newfound passing attack in Baton Rouge has the Tigers a serious contender for the SEC and College Football Playoffs. The Tigers head to Nashville this weekend to face Vanderbilt.

4. Travis Etienne

RB | Clemson                                                      Next Game: 9/21 vs Charlotte

Etienne was solid as Clemson dismantled Syracuse on Saturday. He ran for 76 yards and had 32 yards receiving but was unable to get into the end zone. Both Etienne and Lawrence will be facing uphill challenges as they battle each other for touches and an easy schedule with not many high-profile games.

5. Justin Fields

QB | Ohio State                                                      Next Game: 9/21 vs Miami, OH

Fields has the Ohio State offense in mid-season form. The Buckeyes are averaging 46 points per game through the first three games this season. He accounted for four scores in Ohio State’s 51-10 victory over Indiana. Fields will have an opportunity to name his statistics this weekend as Miami, Ohio comes to Columbus.
