Week Two 2019 Heisman Rankings

2022 Week 11 Heisman Rankings

The college football world was treated to a shootout in Austin, Texas on Saturday night. Two gunslingers in Sam Ehlinger and Joe Burrow went head to head and both put up over 400 yards through the air. Were those performance enough to get Ehlinger and Burrow into the top five of this weeks Heisman rankings? Let’s find out. Now, let’s look at our week two 2019 Heisman rankings.

Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, and Justin Fields continued their trend once again in dismantling overmatched opponents. Now, Fields might have been the most impressive of the three this week. However, Tagovailoa might have the biggest opportunity this week as Alabama faces South Carolina. Having said that, could we have a new number one this week? Now, let’s see where the chips fall in our week one 2019 Heisman rankings.

Top Five Candidates

1. Jalen Hurts

QB | Oklahoma                                                           Next Game: 9/14 at UCLA

Hurts only got about 2 1/2 quarters in against overmatched South Dakota. However, Hurts still took advantage of that time in throwing for three touchdowns and over 300 yards of total offense. Oklahoma takes to the road for the first time this season as it faces UCLA on Saturday evening.

2. Tua Tagovailoa

QB | Alabama                                                      Next Game: 9/14 at South Carolina

Much like Hurts, Tagovailoa received some rest in the second half with the game in command over New Mexico State. His accuracy numbers were down a bit, but not his productivity. He accounted for four scores in the game. The Tide have their toughest challenge on the young season when they face South Carolina on Saturday.

3. Travis Etienne

RB | Clemson                                                      Next Game: 9/14 at Syracuse

Etienne wasn’t able to capture a Heisman moment in one of the biggest games of the weekend. However, he didn’t do anything to hurt his chances. In a tough defensive battle against Texas A&M, Etienne had over 100 yards rushing and receiving in the winning effort. Now, he faces a defense in Syracuse that was toasted by Maryland this weekend.

4. Justin Fields

QB | Ohio State                                                      Next Game: 9/14 at Indiana

Fields makes his debut into our top five this week after a terrific performance against Cincinnati. He is picking up right where Dwayne Haskins and J.T. Barrett left off at the quarterback position for the Buckeyes. Like many of our other Heisman hopefuls, Fields takes to the road as Ohio State gets into conference play by facing Indiana.

5. Trevor Lawrence

QB | Clemson                                                      Next Game: 9/14 at Syracuse

Lawrence is holding on to this spot by the slimmest of margins. And, that may be due to his preseason hype. Lawrence has not gotten off to a strong start in 2019 as he has nearly thrown more interceptions through two games then he did in all of 2018. However, he does have the opportunity against a poor defense in Syracuse this weekend.
