No news is good news in July. When word had circulated earlier this week that Kennedy Brooks was not participating in summer workouts there was cause for concern. However, the Oklahoma Sooners received some good news as Kennedy Brooks is fully reinstated.
Kennedy Brooks Fully Reinstated
The past few years under Lincoln Riley, the Sooners offense has thrived. Now, certainly, that’s been complimented by back to back Heisman Trophy winners. But, the running game has been a focal part of Riley’s offense. Whether that’s been Samaje Perine, Joe Mixon, or Rodney Anderson Oklahoma has consistently churned out 1,000-yard rushers. After Brooks stood in for the aforementioned Anderson, he ran for nearly 1,100 yards. Incredibly, he ran for 8.9 yards per carry in 2018.
Today, Brooks was fully reinstated to the University of Oklahoma following clearance of a Title IX investigation. Brooks was suspended from all academic and athletic activities during the suspension which ruled in his favor this evening.

Now, it’s pretty evident that the Sooners have an embarrassment of riches on the offensive side of the ball. But, bringing in a new quarterback in Jalen Hurts along with replacing four offensive linemen could be tricky. With that, Riley may lean heavily on the running game early in the season. Brooks has been poised to have a breakout season in 2019. That’s evident by his ranking among the top running backs in the Big 12 this season. Having Brooks returning to the fold with Trey Sermon and T.J. Pledger will allow for a more seamless transition for Hurts and the new offensive line.
