Like a flash, the 2018 college football season has come and gone. We’ve moved forward from the drama of the college football playoff selections. Now, we will preview the final stages of the Heisman race. For the large majority of the season, Tua Tagovailoa has been the clear leader. However, as he struggled against Georgia and was eventually replaced due to an ankle injury. Whereas, the Sooners avenged their only loss of the season and Kyler Murray was electric in that rematch. Can Murray make up enough ground in our final Heisman rankings of 2018?

Dwayne Haskins made a major push with his 499 yards through the air against Northwestern in the Big 10 championship game. He is making voters acknowledge his terrific statistical season in 2018. Even though he is a bit behind, Travis Etienne season with over 1,400 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns. Finally, let’s review the final Heisman rankings of the year.

Top Five Candidates

1. Kyler Murray

QB | Oklahoma                                                     Next Game: 12/29 vs Alabama

Murray has completed one of the best one year seasons in Norman. He became the first player to average at least 300 yards passing and 60 yards on the ground in FBS history. His consistent play throughout the season has landed his team back into the playoffs and atop our final Heisman rankings of the year.

2. Tua Tagovailoa

QB | Alabama                                                    Next Game: 12/29 vs Oklahoma

Unfortunately, Tagovailoa picked the most inopportune time to have his worst game of the season prior to being injured. He equaled his entire interception count for the season while only completing 40% of his throws against Georgia. However, that shouldn’t take away from one of the most impactful and efficient seasons we have seen at the quarterback position in quite some time.

3. Dwayne Haskins

QB | Ohio State                                                     Next Game: 1/1 vs Washington

Haskins saved the best for last. His 499-yard performance against Northwestern propelled the Buckeyes into a Rose Bowl berth against Washington. He set the single-season Big 10 record for touchdown throws in a season. And, if not for Tagovailoa and Murray, Haskins would cruise to a Heisman trophy win this year.

4. Will Grier

QB | West Virginia                                                    Next Game: 12/28 vs Syracuse

The regular season ended in heartbreaking fashion for Grier and the Mountaineers. But, Grier had an outstanding season for the Mountaineers. However, that fell short of the expectation that Grier and West Virginia had for a Heisman and a Big 12 championship.

5. Travis Etienne

RB | Clemson                                                      Next Game: 12/29 vs Notre Dame

Etienne ended his final regular season game in 2018 on fire. He had 12 carries for 156 yards and two touchdowns as the Tigers won their fourth consecutive ACC championship. He’s been the workhorse for a much improved Tiger offense. Etienne has not been invited to New York, but maintains his status as the highest ranked running back in 2018.
