Championship Week Heisman Rankings

2022 Final Heisman rankings

We’ve made it to championship weekend. Bowl positioning and College Football Playoff berths are up for grabs. The leader in the clubhouse is Tua Tagovailoa and his Alabama Crimson Tide will face Georgia in the SEC championship game. Whereas, Kyler Murray will face the Texas Longhorns where the Sooners look to be positioned for a playoff berth. Finally, Dwayne Haskins has inserted himself back into the race with his performance last week against Michigan. He will get the last opportunity to impress the voters.

Although Travis Etienne has had a spectacular season for the Clemson Tigers he looks to be on the outside looking in. Will Grier played magnificently in a losing effort last week against Oklahoma. He won’t have another opportunity to provide another moment for the voters. Gardner Minshew has been a hot commodity over the last few weeks. However, after a dissapointing performance against Washington he has taken a fall.  Now, let’s look at the complete breakdown as we dive right into our championship week Heisman rankings.

Top Five Candidates

1. Tua Tagovailoa

QB | Alabama                                                    Next Game: 12/1 vs Georgia

After an up and down first half, Tagovailoa dominated the second half against Auburn in the Iron Bowl. He had six total scores and did not commit a turnover. Alabama figures to have their toughest test of the year on Saturday against Georgia in the SEC championship game.

2. Kyler Murray

QB | Oklahoma                                                     Next Game: 12/1 vs Texas

Murray continues to carry the torch for potential back to back Heisman’s in Norman. Even with the two interceptions, he reached the end zone three times through the air and one on the ground. He’ll need to continue his play for the Sooners to win a fourth consecutive Big 12 Championship.

3. Dwayne Haskins

QB | Ohio State                                                     Next Game: 12/1 vs Northwestern

Have yourself a game, Mr. Haskins. Haskins and the Ohio State Buckeyes inserted themselves back into the Heisman and playoff conversation with the dismantling of Michigan. He did that to the tune of six touchdown passes, 396 yards, and 62 points. He will have the last opportunity to impress as the Buckeyes take on Northwestern for the Big 10 championship in prime time.

The regular season ended in heartbreaking fashion for Grier and the Mountaineers in a 59-56 loss to Oklahoma. But, Grier did his part in throwing for 539 yards and four touchdowns. However, the two Grier fumbles which were returned for Oklahoma touchdowns turned out to be the difference.

Etienne has had an outstanding sophomore campaign. His 128 yard, two touchdown effort against South Carolina allowed him to reach 19 on the season. He’s been the workhorse for a much improved Tiger offense. Clemson is heavy favorites to win the ACC championship once again over Pittsburgh.
