Coming into the season, it appeared to be the year of the running back. In fact, with our initial way too early Heisman rankings, we illustrated just that. Now that we are three weeks into the season, the quarterback position has solidified itself. We’ll look at the movers and shakers in the week three Heisman rankings.
Jonathan Taylor and Bryce Love, two of the early leaders for Heisman at the running back position have dropped. Taylor was the victim of an upset loss to BYU as well as two short-yardage touchdowns taken away by his backup. Alternatively, Love was victimized by an undisclosed injury that kept him out this past weekend. That has caused Love to slide down near the bottom of our rankings. Could we have a new number one this week? Let’s find out as we dive right into our week three Heisman rankings.

1. Tua Tagovailoa
QB | Alabama Next Game: 9/22 vs Texas A&M
Tagovailoa has confirmed what many thought after the National Championship game. This guy is really good. As if Alabama needed any additional help. He has led the Tide to three consecutive 50-point games. Alabama faces their toughest test of the season as they host Texas A&M this weekend. While scoring in the 50’s will be a challenge, Tagovailoa should still expect plenty of success.

2. Will Grier
QB | West Virginia Next Game: 9/22 vs Kansas State
Grier lost his top spot in the rankings mostly due to West Virginia’s game against North Carolina State being canceled. In a what have you done for me lately world, the sample size is just not big enough in the early season. However, that could change with a dominant performance over Kansas State at home on Saturday.

3. Kyler Murray
QB | Oklahoma Next Game: 9/22 vs Army
Murray passed his first start on the road in conference play with flying colors. In a game where the defense struggled, the offense did not. Also, with the first game without Rodney Anderson, Murray contributed 425 yards of total offense on his own in the 10-point win. The Sooners host Army this weekend so another fantastic offensive performance is within reach.

4. Jonathan Taylor
RB | Wisconsin Next Game: 9/22 at Iowa
It was a tough weekend for Taylor and Wisconsin. Not only did the Badgers lose at home to BYU, but Taylor struggled according to his standards. He did have 117 yards on 26 attempts but had a couple of goalline scores taken away by Taiwan Deal. Taylor will see another tough matchup as Badgers face Iowa on Saturday.

5. Dwayne Haskins
QB | Ohio State Next Game: 9/22 vs Tulane
Haskins continued his hot performance last week against TCU. Buckeye fans are getting accustomed to more of a drop-back passing quarterback after the dual-threat J.T. Barrett. He was victimized by several dropped passes but rebounding for a 388-yard performance. Haskins and the Buckeyes should be able to name the score as they host Tulane this weekend.
