Remain calm. All is well. Georgia signed a 2026 quarterback. But, you may be saying, “Wait. National Signing Day was back in December. Don’t all the kids sign then? Oh, and didn’t we lose Jared Curtis to Vanderbilt? ” Well, let’s get you up to speed and answer your questions. Yep, National Signing Day was in December. Georgia is ranked 6th with 31 commits signed. Curtis did flip late to Vandy; money and playing time were allegedly a factor. This isn’t that crazy. Come on, it’s 2026. Indiana is favored by more than a touchdown in Monday’s National Championship game against The U. On Friday, Bryson Beaver, a short-term signee with Oregon, signed with Georgia. Now you probably have more questions, three in fact. Let’s try to answer them and learn about Georgia’s newest quarterback.
Leave It To Kirby: Bryson Beaver is a Dawg
What’s a Short-Term Signee?
A short-term signee is a prospect who signs during the early signing period (December), enrolls early, and officially joins a program, sometimes even participating in bowl practices or winter workouts. However, before the next signing period, start of the season, or in most cases, Spring Practice, the player enters the Transfer Portal without ever officially appearing in a game.
Now here is the “weird” part. Yes, all of this gets weirder. Because the player both signed and enrolled, they are technically part of their original school’s recruiting class. As a result, recruiting services can now remove those players from the original class and instead credit them to the program they ultimately join. To put this in terms that make more sense.
- Tired: Jared Curtis flipped his commitment to Georgia on National Signing Day, instead choosing to sign with Vanderbilt.
- Wired: Bryson Beaver committed to Oregon in December. After Dylan Raiola (another former Georgia commit) transferred to the Ducks and Dante Moore decided to stay for another year, Beaver became a “short-term” commit by transferring to Georgia.
This is the new normal in college football. Ohio State’s Julian Sayin originally signed with Alabama in 2024. After Nick Saban retired, Sayin hit the portal and took his talents to Buckeye Donuts in Columbus. Desmond Williams also had commitment issues early in his college career. Williams originally signed with Arizona, but transferred to Washington after Jedd Fisch took the job with the Huskies.
Who is Bryson Beaver?
Ok, so your next question is, who is this new Georgia quarterback? Beaver is a four-star quarterback out of Vista Murrieta High School in California. He was the 15th-ranked quarterback in the class and had offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, LSU, and Alabama before committing to the Ducks. Andrew Ivins of 247Sports has the scouting report on Beaver.
The good:
“Confident passer with surprising escape powers that’s willing to challenge both man and zone coverage at all three levels. Looks the part with an athletic frame that’s pushing 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. Finds ways to get out of sacks and will extend plays with his creativity as he spins away from defenders.”
What The Beav needs to work on:
“Can get caught trying to do a little too much at times, but a hunt-or-be-hunted mindset can be hard to find in a young signal caller. Needs to improve as a deep-shot taker and keep progressing as a decision-maker, but should be viewed as a late-bloomer who has the tools to eventually emerge as a trusted starter on Saturdays.”
Georgia’s 2026 Quarterback Room
So, now that the Transfer Portal is closed. The recruits are signed. What does Georgia’s quarterback room look like as we head into 2026?
- Gunner Stockton: There is no doubt who will be QB1 in Athens. Stockton is the leader of the Dawgs.
- Ryan Puglisi: Puglisi is the backup heading into 2026. The former Avon Old Farms commit saw time this year and will be looking to compete for the starting role in 2027.
- Ryan Montgomery: Montgomery is a big-time commit from the great state of O-H-I-O in the class of 2025. After fully recovering from an ACL injury during his senior year of high school, Montgomery will look to challenge Puglisi and Beaver to be the starter in 2027.
