Kentucky Signs Four Star Shamar Porter

The Nashville Pipeline Pays Off Again

Kentucky’s had great success recently recruiting in the state of Tennessee. Especially in the Nashville area with wide receiver Barion Brown along with Destin and Keaton Wade The Cats picked up another “Yahtzee” from the Volunteer State at the same position. Let’s look at his history and how he fits in as Kentucky Signs Four Star Shamar Porter.

Highest Rated 2023 Recruit

The 6-3, 192-pound Porter committed to Kentucky back on January 28th of this year. Playing at Ensworth High School in Nashville Porter held offers from a who’s who of schools including Georgia, Ole Miss, Penn State, and Tennessee.

He currently ranks as the 232nd best player in the country by 24/7 Sports. In addition, he’s the fourth-best player in Tennessee and 31st-best receiver in the nation. Last season Porter hauled in 32 passes for 557 yards and 1o touchdowns. As a junior, he had 29 receptions for 446 yards and six touchdowns. This despite missing four games due to a shoulder injury.

In addition to being a standout football player, he also ran track. Porter’s been clocked at 10.89 in the 100-yard dash. He’s also leaped 5-8 in the high jump. He plans on running track again this spring. He won’t enroll in January as his high school doesn’t allow students to graduate early.

Now that we’ve given you some of his stats let’s take a look at how he’ll fit in as Kentucky signs four-star Shamar Porter.

Plenty Of Opportunity

Kentucky has Brown along with another standout freshman Dane Key returning for 2023. However, the Cats have been hit hard by the transfer portal at the wide receiver position. Since the regular season finale victory over Louisville DeMarcus Harris, Chris Lewis, Tae Tae Crumes, and Chaucey Magwood have all left the program. As a result, the opportunity for Porter to see significant playing time is certainly likely.

Right now we don’t know who Kentucky’s quarterback is for next year. However, it sounds like former offensive coordinator Liam Coen is returning. He’s the one who recruited Porter to Kentucky. He also is quite familiar with Brown and the Wade twins and they once played seven-on-seven together.

Again Kentucky signs four-star Shamar Porter, the highest-rated player in the 2023 class for Mark Stoops. Currently, UK sits 43rd in the 247 rankings. That’s a little lower than in previous years but if we’ve learned anything the staff knows how to develop talent.
