One of the top recruits in the class of 2023 has announced his commitment to play football for the Hawkeyes next season. Five-star offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor will suit up for Iowa in 2023. Proctor narrowed his selection to Alabama and Iowa two weeks ago before making his decision official on Thursday.

Highest Rated Recruit in School History

Proctor will be a senior at Southeast Polk High School in Des Moines, Iowa this season. If his high school sounds familiar, it’s because Iowa landed another five-star from the same school in last year’s class, Xavier Nwankpa. Nwankpa’s arrival in Iowa City has helped attract several other top prospects to the university in what became known as The “X” Effect. Proctor becomes the second five-star in the last two seasons to commit to Iowa, and he will likely have a similar impact on future prospects.

This five-star recruit is different, however. Proctor became the highest-rated recruit to ever commit to Iowa in the recruiting ranking era. According to 247Sports, he is the highest-rated player in the state of Iowa. On a national level, Proctor is the second-rated offensive lineman and the 10th-ranked player overall. Proctor has a 0.9952 rating as a left tackle for Southeast Polk, and will likely continue to protect the blind side at Iowa.

High School Skills

In addition to football, Proctor throws shot put for his high school track and field team. Last March, he placed third at the Iowa Indoor Track and Field Championships with a 52-10 throw. His track and field skills translate to the gridiron where he has great upper body explosiveness and hand strength. Proctor’s pass protection is among the best in the nation at the high school level. He shows elite twitch at the point of attack and gets out of his stance with great quickness.

At 6’-8” and 335 pounds, Proctor already has the size to compete in the Big Ten Conference. His eye-popping talent and tremendous upside potential gave him opportunities at virtually every school in the country. He chose the Hawkeyes over teams like Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, Ohio State, and Texas A&M. With Proctor’s commitment to Iowa, the Hawkeyes’ 2023 class jumps to 15th overall, and fourth in the Big Ten. Iowa is now one of only three schools in the conference with a five-star recruit on their commitment list. Recruiting at Iowa continues in an upward direction after the biggest commit in school history.
