Porter Rooks Signs With NC State

The NC State Wolfpack have officially received a letter of intent from talented wide receiver Porter Rooks. Rooks is listed as a four-star recruit, per the 247Sports Composite. He is also ranked 192nd on 247Sports “2020 Top Football Recruits.” He is rated the 33rd best player at his position and the ninth-best player in the state of North Carolina. He had 28 total offers and chose the Wolfpack over programs like Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, and Penn State.

“When I got to State, I immediately felt the love,” Rooks said. “I got chills when I stepped on the field. I haven’t had that experience anywhere else and that’s home for me.”

Rooks is listed at 6’1″ 191 lbs. and is from Charlotte, NC. This past January, Rooks transferred to Myers Park High School to finish out his senior year. In 14 games, he caught 54 passes for 905 yards (17 yards per catch) and 13 touchdowns. He is considered to be a “natural playmaker who displays great hands and concentration.” He will most likely start out in the slot for NC State but could move to the outside due to his size.

Rooks is part of an NC State recruiting class that is ranked 38th in the nation. He will join other talented receivers in the class, such as Jalen Coit, Chris Scott, and Joshua Crabtree. After a season with numerous drops from the NC State receivers, Rooks will be welcomed to Raleigh with open arms. No matter where he lines up, expect him to make an immediate impact on the Wolfpack’s offense.

NC State wide receivers coach George McDonald has a history of developing receivers, including the likes of NFL players Kelvin Harmon and Jakobi Meyers. It’s impossible to know if Rooks will have the same success that Harmon or Meyers did at State. But with the skill he possesses, he has the potential to become one of the best receivers in school history by the end of his time in Raleigh.
