Defense Leads Florida Past Missouri, 23-6

Missouri Tigers

The Florida Gators finished their conference schedule with a road win against the Missouri Tigers. The Gators defeated the Missouri Tigers 23-6. This win snapped Missouri’s two-game winning streak against the Florida Gators. The Florida defense had one of their best game this season as the Missouri offense couldn’t get in the end zone. Graduate transfer Jon Greenard was the player of the game for the Florida Gators. The former Louisville defensive end was too much for the Missouri Tigers offense to handle. Kyle Trask had another nice game as he’s thrown at least two touchdown passes in every SEC game he has started.

Missouri Tigers

It was a bad day for the Missouri Tigers offense as Florida did a terrific job of keeping them out of the end zone. Missouri’s offense was held to 256 total yards of offense. Clemson transfer Kelly Bryant struggled in his first game back from his hamstring injury. Bryant completed 25 out of 39 passes for 204 yards and an interception. Bryant also had 19 rushing yards in the game. Running back Larry Roundtree III was the lead back for Mizzou. He had seven carries for 30 yards which is his third worst this season. Arkansas transfer Jonathan Nance was one of the few Missouri offensive players that showed up. Nance had four receptions for 58 yards. Jalen Knox had four catches for 53 yards including a 44-yard reception.

On defense, Missouri held their own in the beginning but couldn’t hold back Florida’s offense much longer. The Tigers did a great job of getting to the quarterback in the first half but didn’t record a sack in the second. Linebacker Nick Bolton lead the Tigers in tackles with six and also had a pass defended. Defensive tackle Kobie Whiteside was dominant in the first half as he recorded two sacks in the loss. Jordan Elliott had a nice game with four tackles, a tackle for loss and a sack. Tre Williams also recorded a sack in the first half of the game.

Florida Gators

The Florida Gators offense struggled in the first half but made the necessary adjustments in the second half. Redshirt-junior Kyle Trask had a nice game as he completed 23 out of 35 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Emory Jones led the Gators in rushing with 39 yards on six carries. Jones also completed a 48-yard reception to Kadarius Toney in the fourth quarter. Redshirt-senior Van Jefferson led Florida in receiving with six receptions for 82 yards. Trevon Grimes had three catches for 66 yards. Josh Hammond caught two passes for 25 yards including a 34-yard touchdown. Kyle Pitts was kept in check for the most part but did have four catches for 38 yards. Lamical Perine had four receptions for 24 yards and a touchdown.

The Florida Gators defense was on fire as they shut down Missouri’s ground game and forced Bryant to throw the ball. Louisville graduate transfer Jon Greenard was sensational as he recorded six tackles, two sacks and five tackles for loss. Missouri’s offensive line didn’t have an answer for the pressure Greenard was bringing. Linebacker Ventrell Miller also record six tackles including a tackle for loss. Defensive tackle T.J. Slaton also recorded a sack in the win. Redshirt-sophomore cornerback Marco Wilson also had a big game as he had five tackles including a tackle for loss and interception. The Florida defense was especially big on third downs as Missouri went 5-18 on third downs.

What’s Next?

The Florida Gators are going into another bye week for them. They’ll use this time to rest and get healthy for their last game of the regular season. The Florida Gators will host their in-state rivals, Florida State. This game will be the last home game for the Florida seniors. The Seminoles will be led by their interim head coach, Odell Haggins after Willie Taggart was fired less than a month ago. The Florida-FSU game will be played on November 30th but a time has not been announced yet.
