Jack Martin: Troy Trojans’ Next Great Kicker

Jack Martin is Troy football’s latest kicker to sign with the team. Martin inked his letter of intent this past Wednesday on National Signing Day. New head coach Chip Lindsey played a big part in the signing of the Dothan, Alabama native.

The Trojans’ connection to the Wiregrass area (Dothan, Enterprise, Ozark) has grown stronger over recent seasons. Last Word On College Football’s Brandon Eisenman spoke to the former Northview Cougar standout about his recruitment process and his decision to sign with the Trojans.
Martin was originally intended to sign with South Alabama but had a change of mind just a few days before National Signing Day. On the decision, Martin said, “ I had no option to go to Troy at first. South Alabama is a great school… but Troy is a better home for the next four years.” Adding to that, he stated that Troy is a good environment all around, especially on game day.

Replacing Bratcher Underwood

Replacing Bratcher Underwood is “ big shoes to fill” for Martin. On Underwood, the incoming freshman said that Underwood was great for the Trojans. He went on to say that he trained with all of Troy’s kickers throughout the summer and has great relationships with all of them.

Troy Football Connection to the Wiregrass

Troy’s connection to the Wiregrass area has become a pipeline in the state for the Trojans during recruiting. With schools like Dothan, Northview, and Enterprise among others that produce quality talent, the Southeastern area of Alabama has helped Troy heavily in recruiting over the years. Martin said about the connection that “ The Wiregrass area supports Troy.. huge connection.”

Relationships with Coaches

On what coaches spoke to him the most, Martin listed Nick Anderson, Lindsey, and Bam Hardman as the top three. New Special Teams Coordinator Brian Blackmon also played a huge part in Martin’s commitment.
Martin thinks highly of Lindsey. Entering his first season as the Trojans’ head man, Lindsey has done a great job with his first recruiting class. Martin had a few thoughts on Lindsey, stating, “ I am excited to play for Coach Lindsey. He’s just a great guy and a coach I want to play for.”
Martin comes into Troy as a talented kicker and a player that will effectively help the Trojans. His career long field goal in high school was 53 yards. Adding to an already talented special teams unit, Martin is ready to suit up and take the field in August for the Trojans.
What Troy Fans Can Expect From Martin
Troy fans can expect many points from Martin. He was great in high school and looks to continue his kicking skills for the Trojans. Despite being the only Special Teams player to sign with the Trojans, Martin knows exactly what is at stake as he continues his journey at the collegiate level. Suiting up for the Cardinal and Black will feel right at home for Martin. Being just an hour from home in Dothan will provide his family and friends an easier way to see him play at the college level. Jack Martin will be Troy’s next great kicker.
