Florida Gators vs. LSU Tigers Preview

The Florida Gators are back in the Swamp as they will host the LSU Tigers. Florida is coming off an emotional 13-6 win over Mississippi State. LSU is coming off a 45-16 blowout victory against Ole Miss. The last time these two played each other was last season when LSU beat the Gators 17-16 on a missed extra point. Both of these teams come into this game nationally ranked with LSU at #5 and Florida at #22. Ohio State transfer QB Joe Burrow has done a nice job for the Tigers and has led them to a 5-0 record. Redshirt-sophomore Feleipe Franks has improved for Florida since last season and will look to lead his team to victory against the Tigers.

The LSU Tigers have been one of the surprises in the SEC as they come into the Swamp undefeated. One of the reasons for that is their graduate transfer quarterback Joe Burrow. He has completed 70 out of 131 passes so far this season. Burrow has thrown for 1,023 yards and six touchdowns. He also has 35 carries for 154 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Senior running back Nick Brossette is the lead rusher for the LSU Tigers. Brossette has 103 carries for 481 yards and six touchdowns. The two receivers to watch for the LSU Tigers are Justin Jefferson and JaMarr Chase. Jefferson leads the team in receiving with eighteen receptions for 294 yards and two touchdowns. Chase has seven catches for 98 yards and two scores. The former Florida commit is the receiver they look to for an explosive play.

The LSU defense is led by star linebacker Devin White. The junior is arguably the best linebacker in the country and is expected to be taken early in the 2019 NFL Draft. White leads the Tigers is tackles with 44 combined tackles on the season. He also has five tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble. Greedy Williams is LSU’s star corner as he’s one of the top defensive backs in the country. The sophomore leads the team in interceptions with two. He also has eighteen tackles and two passes defended. Another LSU defensive back to look out for is Grant Delpit. The safety also has two interceptions on the season with 27 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.

Florida Gators

The Florida Gators are home after winning back-to-back SEC games on the road. The Florida offense will be led by their starting quarterback Feleipe Franks. The former LSU commit has improved a ton from last season under Dan Mullen and QB coach Brian Johnson. Franks has completed 72 out of 126 passes for 961 yards with twelve touchdowns and three interceptions. Freshman running back Dameon Pierce is the lead rusher for the Gators as he has 25 carries for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Two other Florida running backs to look out for are Jordan Scarlett and Lamical Perine. Scarlett has 40 carries for 209 yards and two touchdowns and Perine has 29 carries for 171 yards. Junior wide receiver Freddie Swain leads Florida is receiving for ten catches for 214 yards and three touchdowns. Two other receivers to watch are Van Jefferson and Kadarius Toney.

On defense, the Florida Gators are coming off two games in which they completely dominated their opponent. Junior linebacker David Reese is the leader of the Gators defense. Reese has sixteen tackles in the two games he’s played. He also has one tackle for loss and a fumble recovery. Junior defensive end Jachai Polite leads the Gators in sacks with four. He has been a force to be reckoned with as he has risen on some teams draft boards. Jabari Zuniga is another defensive line to watch out for. He has 3.5 sacks on the season and leads Florida is tackles for loss with six. The star cornerback in the Gators secondary is C.J. Henderson. The sophomore hasn’t been targeted much this season but he does have an interception and two sacks.
