LSU Potentially Adding Joe Burrow as a Grad-Transfer

Joe Burrow could be committing to LSU soon. The LSU quarterback competition is rapidly intensifying. All three potential starters (Myles Brennan, Justin McMillan, and Lowell Narcisse) are in a heated competition through spring practice. Now that spring ball is complete, the Tigers are still searching for a leader. McMillan looked like the runaway starter following the spring game. However, his performances in spring practice leading up to the game were not as stellar. Brennan held charge as the leader before the spring game. The shift has changed mightily in Baton Rouge over the last month. Within the last week, there has been talk of adding former Ohio State quarterback Joe Burrow as a graduate transfer. Burrow would be eligible to play immediately. As if the competition wasn’t stiff enough at LSU, things just became a lot crazier.

Should LSU add a grad-transfer quarterback?

The thought of adding another quarterback, and on a scholarship, has some Tiger fans all asking the same question: Why? Should Burrow commit to LSU, this could mean trouble for the other quarterbacks on the roster. Burrow would be eligible to play in 2018. For Narcisse and McMillan preferably, their time in Baton Rouge could be up soon. McMillan wants to prove that he can lead the team. As do Brennan and Narcisse. This situation only shakes things up more for Ed Orgeron and his staff.

Before Tiger fans dispute Burrow transferring, just know that he is a talented player. In high school, he led his team to the playoffs and achieved all seven of their first-ever playoff victories as the starter. Burrow threw for 11,400 yards and 152 touchdowns in his high school career. At Ohio State, however, Burrow’s stats aren’t as stellar because he hasn’t seen the field as much. If he were to commit to LSU, he could see valuable playing time in 2018 along with Brennan and/or Narcisse.

Could one of the current quarterbacks transfer?

Bringing in Burrow would obviously make noise in Baton Rouge. Also, the move would cause controversy for the other quarterbacks. Their jobs are on the line. If LSU does make the move with Burrow, could we see one of the current scholarship quarterbacks transfer out? If so, which one? The answer is simple. If Burrow comes to Baton Rouge, we could see one of these players make a move and transfer. The two likely ones are Narcisse and McMillan. Both of these players are trying to prove their worth, while also competing with Brennan for not only a starting role but playing time as well. Perhaps Burrow does come to LSU. McMillan is the player that many fans could see leaving as he has yet again missed his shot at playing valuable time in the offense. With Narcisse, his potential is there, but he has more to prove and can still play a role in the new scheme under Steve Ensminger.

Should LSU get Burrow, things will become interesting very quickly. He is an overall talented quarterback and could play a pivotal role in the team’s success. However, there are some that have yet to see enough from him to make a claim of whether the move would be worth it.
