Silvers electrified the offense with his elusive throwing. The Bobcats’ defense couldn’t stop the Troy passing attack for one play. Coach Neal Brown wanted the offense to play with full energy, and they did just that. Credit to Texas State, though. It was a hard fought game for a Bobcats team that is trying to find their way within the Sun Belt. The ability for Troy to capitalize on drives and execute well-called plays established the crucial play of the team. The defense came away with a couple of fumbles, as well. Terence Dunlap had a big day for the Trojans defense. He accounted for four tackles and one sack.

Perennial Trojan Offense

Troy scored 24 points in just over two minutes to take a huge 41-0 lead into the half. This game was only close at the kickoff. Once Troy received the ball, it was game over. Senior running back Jordan Chunn had an thrilling day also. He finished with 82 rushing yards and a touchdown. Backup quarterback Kaleb Barker stole the show in the second half. He went 4-of-4 passing for 107 yards and one touchdown. He also recorded an acrobatic rushing touchdown.

For Texas State, quarterback Damian Williams went 12-of-17 for 136 yards. The passing attack worked pretty well for the Bobcats, but it wasn’t enough. The Trojans defense was too much, as Texas State only racked up 300 yards of offense. Troy recorded 641 total yards on 66 plays. Bobcats running back Anthony Smith carried the ball 13 times for 94 yards.

One Last Home Game for the Troy Seniors

The Trojans honored 21 seniors during the pre-game ceremony; Silvers, Chunn and wide receiver Emanuel Thompson to name a few. Troy finishes 5-1 at home on the season. The lone loss to conference foe South Alabama ended their chance at a perfect home slate. The Trojans finally covered the spread at home. They came into the game favored by 25, and won by a lot more than that point spread. The Trojans had the point spread covered early in the second quarter. Troy’s defense forced four turnovers during the game.

Post Game Notes

Following the game, Coach Brown said “We played well on all three phases.” Troy has had a knack for not playing confidently on all three phases of the game this season. Brown also praised Brandon Silvers, saying that he “Played at a high level.” This game was the final home game of Silvers’ tremendous Troy career. Brown also spoke highly of his defense, saying that they performed at a high level. Senior Hunter Reese praised his defensive unit for their ability to get off the field on third downs.

What Lies Ahead

Up next, the Trojans travel to Arkansas State for a conference clash. If Troy can win and get some help in other conference games, they could at least share the conference title. The Trojans are seeking their first conference title since 2010.
